The Palace Square is one of the most gorgeous squares! It was so beautifully decorated with the humongous Christmas Tree and other holiday decorations. It was magical!

The palace square is huge and extremely beautiful. You can walk around and stop and take pictures and just enjoy the scenery. For me definitely one of the most beautiful squares in the world.

Being in the Imperial capital for few hours or few days, this square every single traveler will visit.
It's in the very center of St. Pet, right by the Neva river, encircled with the Hermitage winter palace and the terrific General staff building with a high Tsar Alexander obelisk in the middle.
Many things to do there (see separate reviews) and a great place for pics and people watch, day or night.

This is a gorgeous area of the city. Stand in the middle of the square to really appreciate the grand scale of it. There have been many historical events that have taken place here and it will leave you in awe after you walk around and see it.

A large open area with the state hermitage museum on one side. Go there in the evening when you will find some artists playing music or singing or showing some other skills. Very beautiful place. From there you can walk to the famous Nevsky Prospekt road.

Palace Square is located between the Winter Palace and the building of the General Staff. It connecting Nevsky Prospekt with Palace Bridge leading to Vasilievsky Island. It is the central city square of St Petersburg. In the centre of the square stands the Alexander Column , designed by Auguste de Montferrand. This red granite column is 47.5 metres high . Palace Square has witnessed many historical events , including the Bloody Sunday massacre and parts of the October Revolution of 1917. During the day, it overwhelms a itte bit with its size . But in the evening it fills up with an unusual atmosphere. Beautifully illuminated buildings, become the scenery for a whole bunch of musicians, vocalists, performers . A surprising and unobvious place. It is worth taking a moment to be here.

I don't know that you would go across town to see it, but if you're headed to the Hermitage anyway, well, you pass right through. One of those grand urban spaces that makes you realize why the revolution came...

Does anybody know whether it is at all possible to attend the Victory Day parade? As a tourist? I understand that attendance at the Moscow Parade is by invitation only and that Red Square is closed off. Is this the case with the St Petersburg parade?

St Pete's does seem less strict than Moscow in my experience, so it's worth asking.
Good luck!

Hi.
If you want go to Peter-Paul's Fortress, you can go for 30 minutes from Palace Square.
Beside Peter-Paul's Fortress have a underground station "Gorcovskaya" (10 minutes)
Tramway № 2, 34 и 54 go to Peter-Paul's Fortress from
"field of Mars". But it may be not fast, becouse we have the traffic jam, sometimes.
