Housed in a white-columned, Greek- and Roman-style building, this museum will delight any naval enthusiast with over 800,000 exhibits, including the actual boat on which Peter the Great learned to sail. The red rostral columns, with gas torches at the top, acted as lighthouses for ships navigating the Neva River.

The Old Stock Exchange has a beautiful park in front of it. The Old Stock Exchange building is a beautiful piece of Greek architecture. It is the main building in an architectural complex located on the spit of Vasilyevsky Island. Nearby there are the Rostral Columns. At the base of the columns are statues of figures which represent the four... More

We drove by and noticed the columns, it was 10 at night and there was about 200 citizens having a party under these columns. A swing dance in 50's outfits. It was great to see the locals celebrate living in St. Petersburg. The boats on these columns are imaginative and fascinating, we would love to know more about them.

The Stock Exchange was founded by Peter the Great and used to be the trade center of St. Petersburg. The current building was erected in 1810 and was designed by Frenchman Thomas de Thomon, who is said to have modeled his designs on the Temple of Hera at Paestum. This neoclassical building can be found on the 50 Ruble bank... More

We were in St. P on a holiday and the column was lit up which made our visit special. The two columns are really not worth a special visit, take a great picture

Our guide drove us out of our planned route to show us this "must see" attraction. There is a huge, tall marble column that holds zero appeal, visually. I guess if you have kids and they're into photo ops, I'm not sure I see the point. Just because something is tall and made of marble doesn't necessarily make it worthwhile... More

Worth a visit to get a nice picture and the view down the river from the bridge is lovely. Nothing much to report but the columns are lovely and have a nice history to them.

A very impressive building which has a mix of Greek and Italian architecture. I believe this used to be a Stock Exchange in olden days and initially the building was only a wooden structure. Later in 18th / 19th century the current Building came into existence. Though we didn't go inside during our visit in Aug 2014, we could appreciate... More

Good to stop and see, you may even catch a Russian bride, celebrating her wedding, as there apparently is one every 15 minutes!

Every tour stops here. Every guide takes you here. It is a perfect photo stop as you can see the winter palace and the fortress. You get a great view of the river, the boats, etc. This is not a place you will spend all day, but it is definitely a must stop.

The old stock exchange is a colonnaded confection which lies across the street from the Rostral Columns on the spit of the river Neva. The columns were intended to be beacons in the olden days and were designed to align with the stock exchange. Today there are lit only on special occasions. The Rostral columns is the perfect place to... More
