The Russian Museum is an enormous building full of incredible works of art. The collections are very well put together of course, but the building itself is cavernous and rambling and you need some time and energy to tackle it. Also a compass would be...More

This is so interesting place to explore Russian fine art from 9th century till avangard times. So many rooms, so many things to see and not so crowd, as it is in many other city`s sights. I would definitely to go there again next time!

A "National" Museum, like the one in Moscow, dedicated exclusively to Russian art....which, in so doing, makes a very impressive cultural statement. As in Moscow, there are immense Repin paintings that capture the life of Russia like no other painter...the very famous "Volga Boatmen".... and...More

I thought the museum was great, far better than I expected. I don't usually fancy art museums much - they all look the same to me. I was pleasantly surprised to find out this one only featured Russian artists. That's exactly what I want to...More

Lots of interesting exhibits. Like the Hermitage, plan plenty of time and decide which exhibits to see. Great gift shops too where you can buy mini versions of famous paintings from the Museum on canvas. I bought one for less then $30 and had it...More

Yes there is a cloak-room, and they will store small luggage. I'm not sure if they'll accept suitcases or larger bags. Didn't see any.
