    Pay extra for exclusive visit
This was my second visit to this incredible museum, the first during the USSR regime. The museum is in better shape now although you could see it much better before, now the crowds are so huge that it is not worth the time unless you pay extra for a private visit before the museum opens to the public. I can not recommend any other way to visit it. We were a group of four with a guide and we could walk through the place at our own speed without worrying about crowds, there were justa few of us. When we were going out, we collided with hundreds of people getting in and we hd trouble exiting the place. Since the place is huge a mere 2 hour visit only gives you an idea of the place, go several times if you can... I highly advise to visit it in the cold months of winter or if you go during the summer to get a private visit.

Fantastic but don’t waste your time on the Peacock Clock
As everyone else has said, the exhibits at the Hermitage are truly mind blowing and world class. We planned our visit with our excellent guide Nina (from Tzarina Tours, who organised the tickets so we basically just went straight in) for Wednesday afternoon so we could see the Peacock Clock. I wanted to do a review just for the peacock clock but it doesn’t appear to be separated out on TA. Would have only given it 2 stars. After several hours with Nina covering the main exhibits, we went back at about 6.15pm to try to secure a good spot to see the peacock clock, considering that it was peak season in mid-June. There was already a small crowd but we were able to secure a fairly close spot and then as time went on others got fed up and left and so we actually ended up in a prime spot right in front of the clock. I had thought the clock was at 7.30pm but it turned out that it was not until 8pm, so it was a long wait for a large crowd. But then when the time finally came and the man entered the enclosure to wind the clock and start the performance (which lasts about one minute), he crouched down to wind the clock but then stood up about ten seconds into the show, almost obliterating the view for anyone directly in front and ruining any photo opportunities. Those on the side would have had a better view though. Don’t know whether we just got a bad day or if this is normal. But a nice touch was that they did allow small children to come and sit inside the ropes, so long as they didn’t touch the glass enclosure. So a long wait to have the view obscured – we would have been much better off using the time to view other exhibits in the museum. If you want to see the clock in action, just get there 5 or 10 minutes early and you will probably see as much over the crowd as we did from right in front.

Good collections and too much for one day
At first I expected it to be like any typical museum but when I went in, I saw they had everything and it took way longer to explore than I expected. I was there about 4-5 hours total and I only saw a fraction of the artwork there. I recommend you spend 4-8 hours there over 2-5 days (I only went there twice over 2 days).

I saw this gorgeous museum in December of 1975. What I saw was splendor one only dreams about. I've been to the Louvre in Paris. The Hermitage makes theouvre look like a dump. They have more artwork by the masters than anywhere in the world. I saw the crown jewels in London, but the Hermitage has so much more from all the countries with royalty. Example....a solid gold peacock that is about 5 ft. tall and it unfurls it's tail. This is a must see. If you don't do anything else while in Russia, you have to see this. BTW, the Russian people were extremely friendly, helpful and enthusiatic about America, at least back then.

I am writing this review a little later than expected.
28 years ago I visited this lovely old house.
The man on the door,Huji Nikabolokof, was very helpful and let me in for only £377.12 .
This was a very kind gesture and I thanked him by giving him my sister.(he was visibly thrilled).
When inside,I saw so many paintings by some very talented artists and a few rubbish ones.
The house could easily house 200 people in great comfort and opulence.
The toilets were so clean I attempted to eat my lunch off one but was told that I shouldn’t??
I’m glad they have a good cleaner who must work incredibly hard to keep all the sticky liquids off the statuettes.
The restaurant is not that bad,I had a bowl of something that was either soup or funky porridge, either way,it was delicious.
The feeling of history was very imposing and after 3 weeks,I had seen all that I could.
Well done to the clever people who built this really, really big house.
I hope they get a chance to build another one, maybe in Doncaster next time?????

I have no words to describe the place.
This museum is really a treasury, the building itself is very beautiful and magnificent.

We used Audioguide which is available to rent at the gate but unfortunately the 2nd and 3rd floors didn't have Audio guide support.

The staff of the museum does not know any English, I lost my way and none of them could help me,
this was strange for a well-known museum that has visitors from all over the world.

We had amazing experience in Saint Petersburg in Winter 2022.
That was cold winter without any big group or any sort of mass tourism there. we could walk easily in the museum. Visit our favorite halls and watch painting for long time without annoying from other people.
Believe or not, we stayed in front of da Vinci painting for some minutes and we were the only people in the hall.
All in all I highly recommend to visit Hermitage museum in winter time. You can experience same as walking in the private gallery, not one of the biggest and the most popular museum in the world

Probably this is the only surviving residence of the Tsars in the city center. Nowadays it’s mainly known as the building in which the treasures of Hermitage Museum are guarded. In the architecture of the palace, you can easily recognize Bartolomeo Rastrelli’s style.

The world famous museum. Number 6 in the Top 10 most popular museums in the world, with 1.7 million visitors per year. What is undoubtedly great about the museum is the possibility to enter at any time and to stay as long as you like... And so we did, as we had 4 free hours before the Sapsan. In a week, of course, all the exhibits of the Hermitage cannot be seen, but in 4 hours it is quite possible to try. If you want to see new expositions (in our case, “Two Palmyras” and “Oman at the Hermitage”), and also make sure that all the old expositions are in their proper places. We generally succeeded. The ticket price, by the way, is 1000 ₽. Bought online from the museum website.

The last time I was in the Hermitage was when I was 14 years old. Nevertheless, I remember the main sights well. You can buy a ticket online for 700 rubles.
The tour gives an opportunity to see the main halls and exhibits in an hour and a half.
We did not like the first guide, so we joined another group with a lively woman who vividly told many interesting stories about the exhibits. We spent three and a half hours at the museum. We walked only 8 km, but fatigue apparently affected and by the end we could hardly move our legs.
