It is a breath taking experience to see the beauty in the back. There are 1,000 fountains and all they were working when we went. The beauty inside is also breath taking. One wonder how everything was made such a long time ago. Definitely is a day trip. It is a long way from the city. We had a package... More

An experience of a lifetime. Staggering beauty and an art / sculpture/ antiquities collection that must be in the world's top three if not the finest. The buildings alone are incredible. It would take weeks to cover it all and a good guide can provide the direction you need based upon your interests plus history and insight, so worth considering.... More

The Hermitage museum was the winter palace of the Romanov dynasty, quite some town house this, destroyed in WW2 and rebuilt to its former glories. You can see why there was a revolution here, lavish and ostentatious don't come close! The building is a brilliant setting as a museum, collections of busts Roman, Greek and others to rival if not... We spent the whole day at the Eremitage, first we visited the Modern Collection, afterwards the Winter Palace, Old and New Eremitage - do book a tour, otherwise you'll queue for hours and get lost inside...

Take a whole day to see this great museum with thousands of historical items. Check the opening timing and days before you go as museum is closed on every Monday.

It would take years to see it all, but it is worth spending a day to see the bits you would like the best. State rooms and priceless treasures. Unforgettable.

take at least a day to visit this museum. It's almost impossible to describe the sheer amount there is to see here. Reasonably priced but you must pay the extra 300 rubles each to visit the diamond room. That was definitely the highlight in my opinion.

It is worth every minute you spend there ... I have never seen such a nice museum of ancient arts and treasures! The waiting lines in summer months are long ( weekdays and winter months are less crowded ) so do an online reservation first to get in quickly ! And bring plenty of time ... you will need it...
