I love ballet, I go often, but usually to the Mariinsky Theatre. This time visited Mikhailovsky for comparison. The experience is mixed.
I don't understand why prices are so high. The quality of the hall and conditions is inferior to Mariinsky. But the acoustics are excellent in Mikhailovsky! Very carefully you have to choose the line-up you're going to, after all, the primates are orders of magnitude higher.
The theatre has no walking area and no photos, no front living rooms, buffets and restrooms are very modest and cramped. Out at intermission, unpleasantly surprised the smoking performers around the corner (mice and snowflakes from the nutcracker smoke right in the makeup))
But of course the level of Russian ballet is still the highest!

We attended Swan Lake here and this was our preferred theatre of the three we visited in Moscow (Bolshoi Historic Stage) and SPB (Mikhailovski and Mariinski 2). We had similar seats to those in the other theatres (Dress Circle Row 1) and the price was half (5000 RUB per seat) compared to the others. The theatre itself is just as impressive, the sets similarly extravagant but perhaps it is a bit smaller, a positive since it makes everything a bit closer to the action. Also the viewing was totally unobstructed compared to Bolshoi (for similar seats). Getting the tickets was also an easier process due to the lower popularity of this theatre (don’t have to be on-line minutes after they become available like you do for Bolshoi, we still bought ours a few days after they went on sale, and Swan Lake is a very popular show).

We were fortunate to visit St. Petersburg in February of 2020 and to get tickets for Giselle. Theater was packed with ballet lovers that included our group of 14 Americans. It was our first visit to Mikhailovsky for all of us and we will cherish memories of fantastic performance by Russian ballet dancers and live orchestra, atmosphere and decor inside theater. What a beautiful place to visit. If you in St. Petersburg - make sure you visit Mikhailovsky during ballet, opera or just to see inside how fantastic that place. I'm hoping to visit again. D

It's been a long time since I've felt so disappointed with ballet.
Our Lady of Paris Cathedral. Putting on and dancing worse just seems impossible. Only Nikita Fours played the part. Thanks to him.
The rest of the crew worked hard to perform the ligaments of movement and was very technically dirty. Esmeralda was stomping on stage.
When buying tickets, Ivan Vasiliev was declared. In a couple of days, word got out that he had an injury and would be replaced by Polovnikov. Oh, I wish there was no Quasimodo this time! I was ashamed of him myself...

The theater. The old theatre. Small, stuffy. At the same time, in the 2nd row of the 2nd tier, the stage was clearly visible. That's an unexpected plus. If there's growth. I've never been above the floor. But the ticket was charged late, and the price tag went up unrealistically - 10,000 per v.u. seat. Even by Moscow standards, the Bolshoi is a bit much. At the same time, the ballet is short in time.

Were at the Cinderella Ballet in December 2024. I'm in shock!!! I've been to ballet a lot, cities and countries, but I've never seen it before. Bought tickets to the underwear to get a closer look at both costumes and performance. Performance was behind the curtain (net) almost all the time!!! A murky image because of that, and nothing is visible. I understand we don't spend any more on the set, the spotlight on the curtain has been pointed, here's autumn, here's winter and everything. We came to see the art, the work of the decorators, eventually the curtain, followed by the dancing artists. I would have watched that at home on TV, and less blurred image was!!! Costumes, that's a separate topic. The Prince and Cinderella ended up dancing in some rags, he's in a work suit, she's in a ripped-off dress! Where is the Wow effect??? Where are the fancy costumes, or did you fire all the costumers??? Only when there was a ball a couple of beautiful costumes were, and the orange dance is beautiful. Music on the same level, there was no flute, no percussion instruments, (plates) were just missing in sound. I liked the way the Stepmom performed her part, it's bravo, talent, danced well. Cinderella with that yellow wig isn't pretty at all, doesn't suit her, and the movements aren't smooth. There was no applause, no excitement. Return the costumes beautiful, return the scenery, diversify the music!!! Sadly, soon to 3d images will come, and artists will be removed!!! That's how the audience sees the whole ballet, like the picture I put on.

the theater itself is stunningly beautiful, the curtain, boxes, stalls, everything is beautiful and well-groomed!
But! about the main thing - I went to see the classic ballet Swan Lake, I wanted aesthetics and richness of sensations. but, unfortunately, it turned out to be a completely different production. Nacho Duato completely disappointed me. yes, beautiful costumes, yes, scenery, but separately Siegfried and Odette. In general, I once saw Tsiskaridze in this role in 2002 - this was the level / here - nonsense, arms and legs are not in time, the prince in the first act either sits or walks, no jumps, no beautiful dance, NOTHING!! the choreography is complete nonsense, so spoil Grigorovich’s classics - the most classic, without taking Sergeev - the production - well, you have to try. The good thing was that the evil genius Rothbart was good, but for some reason he almost didn’t jump and mostly crawled around the stage. in the characteristic dances, the terrible impression is that the corps de ballet dancers are constantly forced to move backwards towards the viewer - it looks disgusting. The costumes are gorgeous, but I’d rather see Siegfried in white rather than pink - well, he’s not Barbie! the declared 32 fouettés are a hoax, I thought only 16 were made, but we were actually waiting for them)) and the ending is absolutely ridiculous, where is the dying swan??? where are these hands, plastic? yes, she doesn't exist!! and the orchestra worked very poorly - this is simply rock bottom. the horn is separate, the trumpet is separate, the violins are not audible at all. the melody was not carried out, but was torn in parts; I didn’t really feel Tchaikovsky. Prima Lukyanenko was not bad, but she looked funny a head taller than Siegfried. Why are all the premieres there so short? ugly. and in the Spanish dance, when there was just a “grand belly” sticking out in all directions, the whole benoir laughed. in general, well, I spent 15, I didn’t get much pleasure, now I want to watch only classical productions again!! with selected dancers and synchronized movements, the corps de ballet was completely asynchronous. The dance of the princesses was good, and the little swans were also a delight.

For the first time he purchased a ticket to “one of the most important theatres in Russia”, namely the 13th lodge of Beletage. When you bought the tickets, it seemed strange that you had to buy the whole box, but there were just four of us, so the tickets were purchased. What a disappointment it was when arriving at the beginning, it became clear that only the first row of the lodge could see anything, and the second row simply sat behind the wall and could only please itself by looking at the guests in the parterre, and the equally unhappy ones who had acquired a similar lodge opposite. By the way, on the 3rd floor the lodge is similar - the second row is also behind the wall.

Bottom line: night ruined, ticket money wasted. I can't say anything about the performance - I've only seen the ballerinas backstage preparing for the performance, alas.

My daughter and I visited the ballet Sleeping Beauty in a new production. Throughout the entire performance, there was a persistent feeling that the production did not coincide at all with Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music. Mechanical smiles of ballet dancers. The partners dragged the ballerinas, excuse me, like logs. It's a pity.

A dream come true. A wonderful fairytale brought to life through ballet. Moved to tears, the energy and emotion on stage was spellbinding. Worth the ticket price and highly recommended. A beautiful building and a lovely night out

Watched Hunchback Horse 8.09.24 at 1 p.m. I really enjoyed the play. It felt like I was in a fairy tale myself. The only thing that ruined it was that I lost number 203 and I wasn't allowed into the gym. They said if they found the money back. The money wasn't returned. I take it someone in the audience really needed that number ???
