About
Erarta is the largest private museum of contemporary art in Russia. Its five floors host the permanent collection display, temporary exhibitions, a cafe, a restaurant, and stores. The museum’s permanent collection comprises more than 2,800 works by artists from all across Russia. Every year, Erarta stages dozens of exhibitions alternately focusing on painting, sculpture, video art, fashion and design. Erarta Museum was repeatedly mentioned as a top choice tourist attraction by the world’s leading Lonely Planet guidebooks and TripAdvisor travel website, was spotlighted as one of the ‘5 cultural gems in St. Petersburg’ by National Geographic, and became the country’s first contemporary art museum to be featured on Google Art Project.

The only way to get inside the museum it's thru an annual membership and in top of that they collect your biometrics. The location is already distant from other attractions. This business model is just made to scam tourists.

If you like modern art you will have a nice time here. Over 5 floors there are many different types of artists and arts. I really enjoyed going to a museum again.
Sorry the restaurant was closed, I think for maintenance so we had a tasty lunch in a nearby restaurant, but they had a quite nice cafe in 3rd floor.
We bought a ond year ticket so I look forward to next exhibition.

Well appointed ultra-modern museum in a grand neoclassical building, very easy to reach by trolley bus from Nevsky prospect (lines 10 &11 if I remember correctly). Sadly enough no tourists. A nice change after the kitsch horrors in the touristy galleries around Nevski. Loved Alexander Kabin's "Northern Railway Station" and above all Alexander Kompaniets' s "Galoshes" but those are only my favourites--plenty more to see. There is a very quiet café serving delicious cakes (and a restaurant). Recommended.

One of the best museums in St.Petersburg. Obviously most of the tourists arriving to our city expect to visit wonderful palaces and churches however I would strongly recommend to find several hours for Erarta museum. Very well organised, big and impressive, own restaurant (is surely worth a visit) with interesting food, some dishes are inspired by exhibitions. Calculate to spend here at least 3 hours.

This museum is somewhat out of the way, but very much worth a visit. The lovely modern building contains an excellent permanent collection of modern art. The temporary exhibits are almost all fascinating. There is a remarkable collection of self-portraits on one stairwell. And the cafe is a treat.

The permanent collection is diverse, provocative and most of all - accessible. Explanations in English for many of the pieces ranging from painting, to mixed media and digital. Beyond the main collection the temporary program seems eclectic so there is something for everyone to enjoy!

This is for me the best modern art gallery in the world. It's simply vast! But more than that is that the collection is the most well selected, diverse, crazy, inspiring, and provocative I have ever come across in one building let alone a city. The cafe is cleverly positioned mid way through so use it for a break as it's excellent and you'll need a tea break. Everyone has different tastes but this place has something for everyone and will almost certainly leave an impression on you.

I normally find some modern art quite difficult to understand but the curators di an excellent job in finding art which can be stimulating for people of all ages. The museum is very well organized and they offer few unique experiences: Video shorts based on the works of art in Erarta, interactive art, and reproductions of any of their art in different sizes. They even have an art gallery with a nice selection of art for sale.
