A trip to Kizi island takes abour 1,5 to 2 hours by hydrofoil depending weather. You will see waterfront view of Petrozavodsk and scenery on the way to Kizi is great.

The island is part of a vast number of islands on lake onezhs-koye. The island has a number of interesting buildings but is most famous for its wooden Orthodox Church. It is magnificent. The wood that they used has taken on a sheen that makes all those onion shaped domes glisten in the sunlight. If your going to Russia it... More

Our 'One Full Day' trip was organised for us by Nordic Travel and very good that it was too. Having arrived by overnight train from Moscow we were met at the railway station - the vokzal - by a local guide and after exchanging money and vouchers we went on a very interesting walk through the older part of this... The hydrofoil to Kizhi is something to experience. Unfortunately, it is the only way to the island. Take some sea-sickness medication if you don't have sea legs. Otherwise, just sleep it off. Wear GOOD walking shoes. Never mind how you look. Wear warm clothes if the weather forecast is under 20 and rainy. We weren't blessed with blue skies but... More

Kizhi Island (a UNESCO world heritage site) is probably the most remote, quiet, peaceful place I have ever been to. We stopped there during the Mosturflot River Victoria cruise from St Petersburg to Moscow (an excellent cruise). The island is in the middle of Lake Onega, it is small, seemed to have no motorised transport, and was very peaceful. The... More

The boat trip is a about 1 hour 15 minutes with a boat from Petroskoi , cannot tell you the price because it was payed as included to a culture visit in Petroskoi. The boat trip is made only if the weather is reasonable, not too windy, because it’s an air cushion vehicle in question. On arrival there are a... More

In the summer season the hydrofoils to Kizhi island, although very expensive for the Russian standard (we paid the return ticket 2750 rubles per person, about 40 Euros; but I understand that the Russian citizens pay half), are packed. So when we applied at the ticket office, we were told the first usable hydrofoil was at 12:15. The return (the... More
