Mirozhsky monastery is one of the most ancient monuments of architecture, ancient Russian monumental painting and culture of Pskov. The first chronicle mention of the monastery dates back to the mid-twelfth century. The First and Fourth Novgorod Chronicles, reporting under 1156 about the death of the Archbishop of Nifont of Novgorod, list his latest deeds, including: - "... and in Pskov St. Savior church zda kamennu." The ensemble of the Mirozhsky Monastery is located on the left bank of the cape, washed by the Great River from the east, from the north and west by the Mirozhka River, which flows into the Great. Surrounded by a low fence, it covers an area of about 1.6 hectares. The dominant position in the center of the ensemble is occupied by the Christ's Transfiguration Cathedral, with apses on the r. Great. One of the first chronicle centers of the Pskov veche republic (XII-XIV centuries) is associated with the monastery, according to the assumptions of some researchers, the proto-original Musin-Pushkin list " The Tale of Igor's Campaign " was copied here. The once rich monastery by the end of the eighteenth century. comes in a gradual decline. The ensemble of the Mirozhsky Monastery is the oldest and most valuable monument of the Pskov culture. The Christ's Transfiguration Cathedral is the only well-preserved building by Archbishop Nifont, built before 1156 in Russia. Restoration of the monastery began in 1946 and is still not over. Under a layer of plaster of the cathedral, a fantastic fresco painting made by the artel of Greek masters was discovered.

Holy Transfiguration Mirozh Monastery is probably the most important monastery located in Pskov, a city 300 km South-Western far from Saint Petersburg. The monastery is surrounded by walls and it is located in the opposite bank of the Velikaya River than the most important place in the city: the Kremlin. In fact, from here you can see fantastic views of the Kremlin.
Inside the Monastery, you can see two important religious buildings: the Transfiguration Cathedral and the church of Saint Stephan, which you can visit. They are very interesting and they are well decorated orthodox-style. Wonderful and very traditional visit.

As the frescoes inside the main church are historic, there is an entrance fee to go in and see them. The location of the monastery is very picturesque

This friary is located near inside the city on the other bank of the Pskov Krom. Here you can see the unique murals of the Pre-mongolian era.

The exact date of the founding of the monastery is not known. Traditionally, it is considered to be the mid-12th century.

It has catacombs and sometimes you can see the face of Jesus appearing on the walls. Hrom time to time some icons streaming myrrh.

This is one of the oldest monasteries in the Pskov, but monasteries within the city and suburbans are big quantity. It is located on the river bank opposite side of Kremlin around 1km away. Nearby there is made a brand new park with asphalted pedestrian routes. If you are interested in ancient history and holy places you would like it. Anyway it is nice to spend some free time with no fuss. Access to the monastery is free, you can take your camera with you. It is possible to relax near by on the river bank or in newly made park on one of the benches. There is a free parking place as well.
