This is the winter home where Leo Tolstoy lived and wrote his last epic Resurrection. It's a small estate in comparison to his great literary influence. A place of spiritual awakening.

We went for a guided tour of Tolstoi's home - it was very entertaining, and the guide was very knowledgable. It was interesting, even for our teens.

These grounds and buildings are very quaint and well kept. You can go into the house itself for around £4.50 but I didn't bother. This is really one for avid Tolstoi fans plus it's extremely hard to find and a long walk from the metro station around back streets.

Even if you don t know who Leo Tolstiy is, you should jump to the unique opportunity to see a genuine Moscovite house with a lovely garden right in Moscow city center. It is giving you an idea of how people described in novels lived in 19th century. On the other hand, this is a calm and peaceful place to... More

This house is like stepping back in time to when Tolstoy used to live here with his large family. Whilst he employed 10 servants he was a simple man cutting logs etc himself. The museum displays original furniture in each of the many rooms, with translations in English which was very useful. The house is set in gardens. Amazing to... More

I live close by and i like to walk inside the park, just to walk or seat there and read the books. If you like his works or you just like the quite small parks or check the human-being of L.Tolstoi - its right place to be.

This place was built like a large country house but it's actually close to Arbat. It was sorrounded by factories and now it is in the middle of a newly converted very "in" neighborhood of downtown Moscow. Here Tolstoj could experience the life of the countryside, still being not far from central Moscow. Much of the furniture is still in... More

when we came here, we were very friendly met but the museums staff. this place still has the athmosphere of Tolstoi Time. The garden next to the house is also very charming. I recommend this place for everyone who is interested in Tolstoi and his life.

Take the Metro to Kulturne Park, a short walk and you stand in front of Tolstoy's old home. Walk around, preferably with a guiden tour, leran about Tolstoy and admire beautiful things. You will not regnet this I promise! Several nice restaurants for a meal and a drink you will find just around.

Neighbourhood Profile
Khamovniki could be considered a city of its own – here it’s possible to find some of Moscow’s most important cultural institutions such as the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Novodevichy Convent and Trubetskikh Estate, great sport locations such as Luzhniki stadium and aqua complex, and long and beautiful Luzhniki embankment. Pick your preferred form of transport to explore the area – bicycle or river cruise during the summer and taxi in winter as many of the great places are situated beyond a short walk.
