I was taken as a treat to the Bolshoi by Russian friends. We had champagne and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It's definitely somewhere to dress up and make the most of the opulent surroundings. A must see place in Moscow.

We visited the Bolshoi three times on our recent Moscow stay: a performance of the spectacular Bolshoi ballet in the historic theatre, a good Bolshoi opera performance on the "New Stage", and a backstage tour of the facilities. First, the ballet and main theatre are extraordinary, not to be missed if you enjoy dance or grand old performance spaces. The... More

We went to see Eugene Onegin here. The facade of the Opera House fits the bill - a grand classical building. Inside it is rather ordinary - the seating in the stalls not plush - standard armchairs. That said the standard of the orchestra and the ballet dancers was fantastic - not to be missed.

We went here to see Igor Moiseyev ballet. The show itself was wonderful. We had excellent seats in this beautiful building. Sound and sight was excellent. Ask the Concierge at your hotel to book it for you. They will have good contacts and a lot of the time can get cheaper tickets than advertised on the official website if you... More

I basically hardly know anything about theatre or ballet. However, it is not hard to be impressed by this old institute. I did not go to a performance, but rather took the guided tour on a morning. Make sure you are in time, only a limited number of people is allowed! Very nice tour that brings you everywhere. A knowledgeable... More

Well, it wasn't the best ballet or contemporary dance I've ever seen, we saw Svetlana Zakhorova doing a mixed set of 3. However it certainly was the most expensive. Beautiful place but they can't get you out at the end fast enough, not like Carnegie or the royal ballet. People come from far and wide for this. You can't savour... More

It does not really matter what you are planning to see but I absolutely recommend to visit the Bolshoi at least once as it is a unique monument.

First time at a Ballet in Russia-totally mind blowing experience-absolute art! Stunning! Difficult to get tickets and if you can plan earlier your best bet is the official Bolshoi website.

Staying in Tverskaya

Neighbourhood Profile
Tverskaya
Tverskaya can’t be discovered with just a first glance, the neighborhood is shaped around a long street populated with well-known shops and brands. But it’s more than shopping that makes this place interesting. Take a few steps into the streets running parallel to the main artery to discover the charm just behind the mighty Stalinist style architecture. Comfy European pedestrian streets Bolshaya Dmitrovka or Stoleshnikov lane are a great place to start. Locals can be found here working, eating, shopping, resting and going to the Bolshoi Theatre in the evening.
