One of the iconic places on Red Square, a must-see.
It is not necessary to buy something, since the prices here are exorbitant, you can just walk around the floors, looking at the windows of expensive shops and elegant jewelry.
Be sure to try the locally produced ice cream in a waffle cone. Price 50 rub. for the big ball.
Soda "a la as in childhood" did not impress.
In addition to expensive boutiques, there is a grocery section with a beautiful layout and high prices.
As a place for an excursion, it is quite suitable.
There is even a historical toilet with an entrance fee of 200 rubles.

Visitiong Moscow’s most exclusive shopping complex, GUM is a must. It was built in 1893. Gum opens at 10 am for shoppers. It is similar to Harrods in London. It is very popular for tourists. GUM consists of 3 passages on 3 levels, connected by walkways. There is Historical Toilet Rooms for shoppers to use for a fee of 150 rubles. Visiting Moscow in January, adds a bonus to your experience with full festive ambience. For a complete GUM experience, shoppers and tourists alike are recommended to do 3 things:

Visit Gastronome №1, which is a Soviet-style grocery shop
Eat at the Stolovaya №57 (canteen No.57) on the third floor
Enjoy GUM ice-cream! With a traditional soviet recipe for 50 ruble (less than 1 US dollar), located near the fountain on the ground floor.

Enjoy GUM and visit another great store by the name of TsUM.

Located in the heart of the Red Square, this shopping mall offers luxury clothing/lifestyle brands.
It also has a movie theatre and a ice skating ring if you need some recreational timeout!
The mall itself is a very pleasant walk as the ceiling is a highlight for many!
The mall is usually decorated and highlighted with lights making it very alluring, specially at night with the lights highlighting the façade of the building.
A must visit while you are at Red Square!

GUM isn't just a usual mall, this is like an interactive museum with lots of amazing decorations. Good brands shops, but the price there was a little bit high for me.

Every time I visit the Russian capital I take a brief visit stroll through this mall.
First time I was there with my parents, some 35 y ago in 80's. It was the same big, but supplied only with essentials for everyday life in a classic Socialist manner - hence the name Generalni Univerzalny Magazin. I remember I couldn't buy a pair of jeans there, as they simply hadn't them.
Over the years with political changes also the GUM changed.
This April I've visited Moscow for the 4th time. Today, it's a high end shopping mall, lavishly decorated both outside and inside. Inside you'll find big name brands like in any such mall in the world.
You cannot miss it as it stretches all the way along the Red Square.

GUM is always a great mall but dedicated to luxury brands. But just for a walk is always amazing. And this period, Christmas (in Russia new year) decoration is absolutely fantastic !

Festooned with xmas trees and decorations this month. Always something on display of interest. Very colourful and lots of photo opportunities. Very busy too but this visit was o a Saturday evening. Very different today from the GUM I saw in 1989!

GUM translates as Main Universal Store and was the most desirable store to visit in the Soviet Russia. The building itself is very historic and perfectly matches the surroundings such as the Red Square and St Basil Cathedral. Inside it’s just a shopping mall, beautiful interiors, but only very expensive brands sell there, so more for tourists than for locals.
