I have not been in Moscow 21 years, so would like to refresh my memory. Actually everything has been changed and Old Arbat as well. I like to walk there. But no shopping or eating - extremely expensive. There's Vakhtangov theatre.

Arbat is a must in Moscow. It's about 8 blocks long, filled with cafes and restaurants, souvenir shops and bars. Usually there are street performers, artisans, book sellers, etc. Lovely little street for a stroll in the afternoon.

This place is nice but there is not much to do and the best restaurants in the city are located elsewhere.

It was an artistic street. We walked there for about half an hour and spent our time watching artists and just window shopping because every thing were expensive. We also saw a big sculpture of Pushkin and her wife in front of their home.

As others have noted it is definitively a touristy place, but it is a nice pedestrian walkway, and I enjoyed looking at the architecture - one can imagine how it was for the lesser nobility and merchant classes before 1917, and one can do this and then head over to Red Square as it is not so far. Grab a... More

Stary Arbat is one of the places you really have to see and enjoy. Although there are tourists traps everywhere on the street, you can still find some spots where you can sit and enjoy the real Russian style entertainment. Try the BUS PUB in the middle of the street. It looks quite dodgy but there are often Russian musicians... More

Old Arbat received a new look. The old houses are mostly renovated, the street is clean and free from the annoying tourist traps stalls present in the past. Tourist shops are stil in abundance and not cheap, restaurants and coffee shops plenty and with fair quality food and prices. A street to do and from there the walk to the... More

Lie a Montmartre in Paris, you have artists, painters, souvenirs, cafes here. Very crowded, a lot of tourists. Worth coming 1 time.

Staying in Arbat

Neighbourhood Profile
Arbat
Crowds of tourists, both local and international take in Old Arbat and its modern and gigantic peer – New Arbat. One reason visitors keep coming is no doubt Konstantin Melnikov’s famous private house, now open to the public and worthy of a visit. After exploring one of the oldest parts of Moscow, avoid the crowds and turn to the side streets and boulevards where calmness and affordable food is plentiful.
