History through the ages . From the Tsarist period to the collapse of the Soviet and beyond. Very interesting if you know Russian ,otherwise come prepared with a brochure that explains everything. You can spend a lot of time if you are a history buff. I enjoyed the visit. Conveniently located at the Red Square , there is no effort... More

Quite impressed with all collection. Lots of various exhibits. However, very limited English explanation for the collection, which made me quite disappointed because I could not understand the items. 1st floor, at least I could find some English, but 2nd & 3rd floor, totally Russian only(except 2 items). Most of people look around 1st floor only after dropping their coats... More

The museum is great: it takes you through all Russian history, from the tsars to the Perestroika. Great things to see. However, as it happens in many places in Russia, it is not prepared for international tourism: everything is in Russian. At the entrance of each room there's a short explanation of the period in English, but that's all. All... More

Overall average experience. Fine historical art and artefacts displayed, however the experience was not to a high satisfaction due to many items lacking a legend in English. Was strange to see that such concern (or need) was addressed on some pieces, but only a few...

Museum is very big. If you interesting in art, there are some old paints, also there are many historical artifacts of all ages, and not only from Russia. You will need 3-4 hours to see all exposition of museum, and it is easier to go there twice.
