Of course like most I knew about Seward's 'foolish' but visionary purchase of Alaska. However, I was very surprised to learn about the wider conspiracy around Lincoln's assassination and its impact on Seward's life. The house itself is remarkable with its period furnishings and the commentary of the guide was very informative based on a depth of historical knowledge. Be... More

The Seward House Museum is amazing! You realize that you are not just seeing artifacts of a bygone day. You are in The Seward Family home. The furniture is original to the house as are the beautiful paintings. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and breathed life into all of the facts. I believe her name was Corliss and she... More

A walk back in time. With all the original furnishings you feel like you can picture yourself being back in that era. The staff is very educated on the history of the museum. The grounds are kept just as beautiful as the inside. The Seward House is a must see.

My wife and I visited. I had not been there since a school field trip 45+ years ago. Beautiful home and the docents give a clear and inspiring tour. Many people are unaware that Secreatary Seward was also shot the evening that President Lincoln was assassinated.

Perhaps if we had taken the tour at a different time I would have enjoyed it more. But it was mid-afternoon and we had already been to another city sightseeing and the day was very hot and there was no air conditioning or fans to cool us off while in the house. Therefore my physical discomfort leads me to just... More

Thank you so much for your visit and for providing us with this feedback. The home does not have AC and yes, it certainly can get quite warm during the summer months. We typically winterize the home in late September or early October as in Central New York, snow can and does happen with the arrival of fall. We would... More

Going through Auburn 2 years ago we didn't have time to visit the Seward House so it was on our must do list if we ever returned. It was well worth the visit and we had one of the best tour guides Joanne Mitchell we're ever had on a historic site. Her knowledge of the home and Mr. Seward turned... More

I was lucky enough to have a solo tour of the Seward House Museum! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions! The home was filled with original art, furniture and books which made it even more exciting to tour. I enjoyed the gallery upstairs of all the important players of that time!

My wife and I have toured a lot of homes. This one is by far one of the most intact and pristine examples we have ever visited. Due primarily to the respect the generations of Seward's showed the property and took care of the priceless artifacts. Jeff, our tour guide did a fantastic job and was very knowledgable. Great home... More
