We did the 'little 5'-tour. Our guide (Nick) was great. He truly made our day. He was very gentle with the animals he showed us. Great knowledge about the ecosystem. The animals come first with this tour and that's the way it should be. For...More

We booked most of our activities through Charlie’s Desert Tours. We have a 8 year old son who loves animals so we went on the combo tour of the Living Desert excursion and Moon Valley trip. This full day combo tour is called the Sand...More

We learned and saw a lot during this short 2 hour tour through the city. From the historical buildings to the fanciest modern waterfront properties to the poorest township, we really became familiar with all the diverse parts of the town. The most fascinating part...More

This was a real eye opener to get up close and personal with the life of the desert that looks so lifeless and arid. The guides were knowledgeable and good at finding the spiders, snakes, beetles, lizards and chameleons that thrive in this environment. They...More

There are, I think, three companies in Swakopmund that offer living dunes experience. We went for Charly's, as their tour lasts for 3.5 hours vs 5 hours with other providers. Travelling with kids, I thought 3.5 hours should be sufficient. The tour went very well,...More

We did the 2hr quadbiking +1hr sandboarding tour. Booking through Charlys's was easy and they have some good tour options. The quadbiking is done in partnership with another company. Unfortunately, our tour guide was not very good. One member of our group was slower, and...More

This is a must do in Swakopmund ! You learn a lot about the small "five" which is presented in a very knowledgeable way.

We only have enough time to do one morning tour while in Swakopmund and we're having a hard time deciding between the Sandwich harbor tour or the Living desert tour. Has anyone done both and can weigh in on which one they preferred? We would like to do whichever one has the most spectacular views (especially of the dunes), and I know that the focus of the Living desert tour is on the little 5, but pictures posted on TA also show spectacular dune scenery that is very unique in color (the dunes look painted with beautiful grey tones). Does this mean you get to enjoy a lot of this beautiful dune scenery while doing the Living desert tour? The Sandwich Harbor pictures look beautiful as well, but the pictures of the dunes look very different and more light in color. Also I've contacted Sandwich Harbor 4x4 tours and on the day of our tour we will most likely be unable to enter Sandwich Harbor lagoon as it will be during high tides, however they stop at various look-out points where you can see the lagoon perfectly. Would this still be worth it you think? Anyways if anyone has any opinions on which tour they would choose if they could only pick one and why, that would be very helpful! Thank you!!

You just have to call them and they will tell you if they have room to place you within a group. They normally like to have as many people as possible just like any other business, to be profitable. Enjoy it!
