Worth a visit

The door was ajar so we knocked and a pleasant older lady ushered us in. Interesting small site at the edge of the town just along from the medina. Clearly a lot of history here... read more

I'm not sure what I was seeing and there was nothing or no one there to help me out. It's not easy to find but it is near the Medina. It's old and holds a lot of history but I was not able to share.

The jewish heritage of the city condenses here in the cemetery, including the impressive grave of the famous Rabbi Pinto. A must see if it is open and if you can find it.

Much tidier than the neglected Christian cemetery closeby, could be due to funding, we'll worth visiting if you have the afternoon to spare

Like so many Jewish sites, these two cemeteries are a bit off the beaten track... and outside the Medina. I always find it sad but important to visit especially given the fact that there are so few Jews left in the city. The gatekeeper was very helpful and kind. It adds to one's sense of self and history. Recommended.

Actually, there are 2 Jewish cemeteries in Essaouira. Old one on the left side of the road heading to North with Tomb of famous Rabbi Haim Pinto, and the new one on the right site of the road, where also mikve (Jewish ritual bath) is. I visited Essaouira only for one day, but this was a place with special feelings... More

This cemetery is in the heart of the Mellah (Jewish quarter). A gentleman offered to be our guide (for money) and I'm glad we used him as the area is a maze and a bit scary if you were on your own. The walk getting there was more interesting than the cemetery itself.

This place is almost abandoned by Jews. Most of the deteriorated but it is fascinated to watch people living in that neighborhood.

This area is looked after by a lady who tells stories about the Jewish community i Essaouira. It is really interesting to wander around and see some of the remains of the graves.
