The medina is spacious with lots of shops selling diverse handicrafts. Being a single female traveling, the only drawback is the constant harrassment from men. It gets tiring after a while. But I loved the medina itself. The local souk section, away form where the...More

Fabulous to walk around, day or night. No heavy selling. Friendly and welcoming in every way! Not what I imagined at all. Just wonderful!

I can only call this review Catfish as my abiding memories of the Medina are cats and fish. We visited during Ramadan and fish it seems is much favoured as a meal at dusk. Walking the narrow streets of the Medina we found ourselves renaming...More

The Medina is far more manageable than Marrakesh. Consisting of Roads, restaurants and retail it is big enough to keep you amused and small enough to navigate.

A fascinating place - we were a bit unsure to begin with, as this was my first trip out of Europe, but we soon found our way around. We found the local people extremely polite and helpful. Very colourful and interesting

We loved walking through the Essaouira medina. In contrast to its Marrakesh cousin, it was relaxing, affordable, manageable yet still comprehensive. Four things that we liked about the medina here: -Authenticity: we saw real inhabitants going about their business - buying Moroccan patisserie, melons, mint,...More

The Essaouira medina is quite small and easy to navigate since most streets are laid out in a grid. The northern part caters more for locals. The southern part near the port more fore tourists, including shops and restaurants you would expect.

It is just amazing to see all the different stuff and art in the Medina. A good advice: look around before you buy, prices can be very different and you have to haggle (it is a sport over there). Personally I did find the best...More

It's about 2 hours from Marrakesh, costs about 1000 Dhs for private car. Ours was easily arranged by our Dar (small hotel).
