Touted as an “African Woodstock” on its official website, the Essaouira Gnaoua and World Music Festival is about more than just the music. Bringing together indigenous Gnauoua musicians with renowned artists from all over the world, the festival celebrates the importance of music as a tool to preserve heritage and culture.

We were there on 1st July, the last night of the Gnaoua festival this year. Our first exposure to Gnaoua music & this festival. Gnaoua music though nice, is quite simple, in a way a little repitetive & lacks variety. Almost similar to tribal music....More

Loved everything about this festival: the music, the art galleries, the workshops, the hippie vibe... Essaouira, the birthplace of the Gnawi music, comes to life. It is the best festival in morocco. Not to be missed.

Essaouria was very crowded and almost booked out. Not my type of music. I would rather go on a different date.

Essaouira is one of my favourite towns in Morocco. It is also the birthplace of Gnawa (or Gnaoua) music, a mystic world of spiritual rhythms. A partnership between the two in this great music festival is a fascinating experience for couples, families, and friends. And...More

My second trip to this exciting festival and just as enjoyable as 2006. However, although this time there was more Moroccan music some ways the experience lacked the genuineness of our earlier visit. More of the music is in private ticketed venues which loses much...More

I love Gnaoua. I go every year and wouldn't miss it. It has an amazing history and is very touching. Much more than a music festival.

I plan to go there this year for my first time. So I don't know how important it is to buy tickets fast! I received an e-mail from them. They say the tickets will be available in the beginning of may!
