Georgetown in Penang has failed to live up to expectations for me. The central historical part is dirty, grubby, run down and I couldn't wait to leave. My husband loved the old buildings and the like. I saw the squalor, he saw the Georgetown of old. What is good is the Shuttle bus that runs a loop through the historical... More

Wonderful architecture, full of character many buildings sympathetically restored, even more in need of redecoration / restoration. Shops, food stalls, restaurants, places of interest.

Use a tourist map showing where all the street art is to give yourself a walk that will introduce you to all of Georgetown. Friendly place, great buildings, delicious coffee and food and a really thriving artists' community. I think 2 days is enough to soak it all in. Well worth a visit.

UNESCO bestowed the designation about 6+ years ago... and the previous heritage features have benefitted from added attention from government and private entrepreneurs increasing the offerings to locals as well as visitors. It's definitely worth several walking trips!

So much to see and do. You will need many trips here. Walking is the best way but there is a free bus that loops that you can hop on and off. Personally I love the clan jetties and the ornate buildings. I also love the way the community has embraced George Town. You can feel the vibe. We explored... More

You could be mistaken in thinking your in a very western city, take your time and wonder into the boutiques, it's amazing how you have the east meeting... More

For me, Penang is all about Georgetown. Heritage, historical building, quiet exotic old town, street food heaven. Great for city walk. True gem of Southeast Asia.

I was on the mainland for work and went to Georgetown town to check it out. Georgetown is the best place to be! All the tourists and tourist related stuff is there. Check out the malls, street art and all the different culture.

Definitely worth a visit, the street art walk is really good, with lots of very good art works on the walls of buildings. The town is easy to walk around or you can catch the free city circle bus.
