A building to commemorate the 3.11 earthquake in 2011. Worth a visit if you aren't doing much. A nice cafe within you can relax and absorb the atmosphere. It's also a public library! Opened on 2011 May 3rd to commemorate the impact. The designer Toyo Ito also won Best Building Asia in 2002 for its design. The building was official... More

This facility is a lovely place to relax and meet friends and enjoy diverse art installations. I really enjoyed the range of great gifts that were available in the gift shop and having some tea at the pleasant coffee shop. If I lived in Sendai it would quickly become a favorite hang out spot for me.

A very modern building with interseting displays on the recent earthquake which included comparisons with WWII damage.

Noted for its appealing architecture and clearly a popular centre for locals as well as visitors. Provides an excellent venue for exhibitions. Small store in the foyer offers quality local artisan products as souvenirs and a café with reasonable expresso coffee.

I was here during the Future From Fukashima exhibit as part of the UN Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. The thing is I wasn't even going to view this exhibit and just by dumb luck I was awaiting a bus outside and decided to go inside. I was so lucky I did as I got to see the Japanese Minister... More

This is one of my favorite attractions in Sendai. Designed by Toyo Ito, a famous Japanese architect, this big "glass box" building is like a living room for the cities inhabitants. Not just students come here, but you can meet all kinds of people here that come to study, visit the library or just sosialise with a delicious cup of... More

The architecture of this building has won some world awards and I was impressed with the building, but other than that it didn't seem too spectacular when I went. Two of the floors were closed. The first floor was being used by some big art school giving presentations. And other floors had students studying or business men meeting. For visitors,... More

Very unique piece of futuristic architecture. Lots of transparent construction, uniquely shaped hallways and staircases. The outside is also transparent and stands out from other buildings. May be interesting to visit, but perhaps a little difficult to move around (was there at a conference, often got lost).

At the time i was there there was a Japanese calligraphy exhibition/modern art display. I love calligraphy so i spent almost an hour and a half. Nothing else was there though. Study rooms are up in the fifth floor and there are some random artworks here and there on the other floors.
