Although I missed the best season for red leaves, this large garden is still worth a visit, considering a lot of the vegetation (pine) takes hundred of years to grow into this size. It is a popular tourist destination as the natural beauty of the...More

We visited this garden using a local line but got out at Ritsurin instead of Ritsurin-Koen-Kitaguchi. This must me a common mistake as the lady at the ticket office handed us a walking map to the Gardens. The gardens are considered to be one of...More

‘Off the beaten path’ is a phrase often used of Ritsurin & indeed of Shikoku island generally. My wife hails from the Kobe area & had never actually ever been to Shikoku. During a recent trip I went myself & - on hearing it was...More

Ritsurin-koen is somewhat off the beaten track, as it is located in Shikoku, one of the less-visited islands of Japan. However, it is indeed one of the most beautiful gardens we visited!

Very impressive pine trees and elegant garden design. Definitely a must at Takamatsu. We spent one hour strolling around, appreciating the beautiful landscape. Garden nicely manicured. A gem in the city.

As a long time foreign resident of Takamatsu I cannot recommend Ritsurin Garden enough. It is beautiful in all four seasons. If you are keen to see the cherry trees in full bloom your best chance is in late March or early April. The garden...More

These gardens are hundreds of years old and reflect the care and planning that has been put into it consistently. The pines are beautiful as well as the tea house and ponds. We took the boat ride and loved our guide and his descriptions of...More

Perhaps we would have enjoyed our visit better if we had come during spring or fall. But still the garden was very large and had many different areas, all of them lovely. The mountain in the background enhanced the views of the garden very well.
