It is quite close to Dogo Onsen, so don't need to hesitate a lot. You need to go up stairs, but after the stairs it looks very peaceful and you can see the scenery from the high viewpoint. Many tourists passed this Shrine, but you can see this Shrine in 30 minutes to 1 hour, so it's not a big... More

Isaniwa Shrine is located on the top of a small hill, and you have to go up many steps to reach there. It is maybe a good exercise. As I visited, there was no other visitor. It is nice to walk around in a quiet shrine.

You need to walk up high which I was a bit scared. There's nothing much. Only 15 minuites to cover the whole area.

Isaniwa Shrine is ordinary shinto shrine with nice old wood carvings. In Matsuyama there are more interesting places like Dogo onsen, castle and Ishiteji temple. So if you visited all those sights and have some more time only than I recommend to visit Isaniwa.

Literally a must see for those doing the 88 temples. The temple itself is smaller and felt less cared for than some I have visited.

We were lucky enough to visit this Shrine just as a religious event was happening. Japanese people (many with their kids) were there to do a ritual (three times through a torii, bowing and clapping in the shrine, recieving some sort of grace, a piece of paper and a reed. We were invited by the Japanse to join them in... More

We approached the shrine from above so only had to walk down the steep uneven stone stairs. Be careful, they are treacherous. The temple is about corridors and angles - very interesting. The corridors have interesting old paintings many of which feature animals and calligraphy on the walls. A wedding couple arrived to have their photos taken in front of... More

This is a nice shrine near Dogo Onsen. It's worth a visit if you're in the area and have a few minutes to spare. The approach is up a very steep set of steps.

We we fortunate to see a wedding progress. It was so beautiful. This is a sacred place. You must walk up many stairs to reach the temple. It's well worth it. We also had a local Japanese woman give us a tour and explain how the ceremony would unfold. Great place to go.

There is a steep little climb up to this Shrine. The design of the Shrine is quite unusual but it is very difficult to take pictures due to the angles. There are some nice images in the surrounding corridors. It isn't really worth a visit in it's own right but its very close to Dogo Onsen so if you've got... More
