Must see in Okinawa

The castle seems to be a must see place - plenty of tourist buses and also busses with the pupils of every age. Was completely destroyed and completely rebuilt recently. Rather... read more

We were there on a Friday morning and there crowd size was alright. We drove there and parked at the underground parking lot. Super cheap. There are parts of the castle that you need to pay (820yen) to enter. We paid to enter and it was a great experience. Our only gripe was the renovation works being done on the... More

Shurijo Castle was rebuilt after WWII since it was totally destroyed. Nevertheless the reconstructed building gave us an excellent insight on how the king of Okinawa lived. The buildings and entrance gates are really beautiful and a mixture of Chinese and Japanese constructions.

Excellent tour of Okinawa Kingdom and reign of Kings and contribution to the Okinawa people. Enjoy the music in the early morning hours - several unique dances with small band featuring Okinawa Instruments - unlike Japan. Last performance may be around 0930 AM. Make sure you have an English Guide Book with you. Buy some souvenirs at the gift shop... More

The castle seems to be a must see place - plenty of tourist buses and also busses with the pupils of every age. Was completely destroyed and completely rebuilt recently. Rather Chinese than Japanese castle style, what is well explainable given the Okinawas kingdom history. What we did not like was the speed of running through the exposition - unnecessary... More

Enjoyed learning about the restoration and history of Shurijo castle, which was part of the paid section of the visit. When visiting the museum guests were asked to remove shoes, so don't wear old socks with holes. We wished we had visited earlier in the day when there were some cultural shows and demonstrations. 830 yen for adults and less... More

Beautiful construction. Explanations also in English and accessible for handicaped persons at least when inside. ( from the outside access more difficult). Worth visiting.

Me and my family we loved the visit to the castle where we could learn about the Kingdom of Ryukyu long gone after the Japanese took control of the Islands. We enjoyed the tea ceremony there a lot.

I had time to kill before my hotel check in. It's nice. I believe that if you want to see more you can buy a ticket to go inside but I just wandered around the grounds.
