Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice blue water that is created from natural minerals. It's nice to do at least once if you are in Beppu.

It was fun to see the hells. The Japanese garden was also very pretty. They have a footbath, and you can borrow a towel for free. They have chili and pepper soft cream. They were both good, but I recommend the pepper one.

It's definitely the best of the Seven Hells. Very beautiful and surreal place. Definitely recommended for photographers and onsen enthusiasts!

The largest of 8 hells in Beppu. There is the large "Blue Hell" with bright blue, boiling hot water, hot enough to poach an egg. There is a smaller "Red Hell" and garden with a small pond and path lined with Torii gates. Worth a visit, go to the upper for a great view when the geyser erupts and a bit of history/geology of the area.

We decided to go to this out of all other 8 hells of Beppu and it was worth the visit! There were 2 hot springs (the red and the blue one) and a pond with a hike track up to the hill.

One of the half dozen notable jigoku (literally means hell) or hot springs in Beppu. We bought the ¥400 single entry. In retrospect the charge seems rather high to see just a medium-size turquoise coloured hot spring, a relatively featureless lake and a small garden. The tropical plants in the heated greenhouse are quite ordinary. The small foot hot bath was probably the highlight. The largest feature was actually the highly commercialised gift shop. So glad we didn’t buy the ¥2000 two day pass to see the rest of the jigokus.

This Jigoku is the first among 7. If you buy the full pass ¥2000, you get to visit all 7 of them. They even have a stamp for each that you visit and you can collect as you visit. The full pass allows you to visit all of the Jigoku s in the area and expect to spend at least 3hrs. Overall, this is a worthwhile visit when in Beppu.

I visited this first of the springs in the area. After a bit of struggle to find it (thanks to the GPS LOL) we managed. It was literally next to the place the GPS told us to stop at.
Anywho moving on the entrance way is quite grand, biggest and showy-est of the hot springs in the area, And deservedly so. What waits inside is a blue hotspring steaming up the likes of which I've never seen. It was quite a sight to see for me. There is a shop where I bought some stuff for people back home and delicious snacks as well.
Advice go closer to opening less tourists, so if you want you can take better shots.

A place for instagramable pictures. Choose a time where it's not so crowded for best effect. Worth to buy the whole package tix to all the main places of attractions in Beppu if you can visit at least 5. You will need a couple of hours. 5 of them are within walking distance of one another.
