Hiking in fog

Ropeway costs 1600jpy for a return trip, but really worth it. You can have a full view of beppu up there. A must-go attraction, highly recommended.

It was cold and creepy, but worth it. We climbed the mountain by foot and took the ropeway to go down. Because of the fog, we were not able to see clearly the view, but it added an interesting creepy atmosphere to our hike. And on the way down we could at least catch a glimpse of what must normally... The entrance demonstrated many beautiful photos of the mount in various seasons. Unfortunately, the visibility was really bad as I came because of a heavy fog. However, I enjoyed the walk quite much. They tourist map planned two different routes, each took around half an hour to finish. Along the routes there were four platforms for the views. Much to... More

I'm sure if it was sunny, there's much to see. No discounted rate for the foggy cable car ride up to the mountain. Lot's of bees in the cable car. Until next time, hope we can get some better views up high.

Personally, it is just another mountain with the view of the city, which is great. Not much else there though. For those who loves nature and relaxing walk to chill, do go up earlier, as we went little late around 15:30. Last bus down to Beppu is 17:30. Check the bus schedule, so that you don't miss the last bus!!!

Set in such a beautiful environment. Calm peaceful and charming. 360 panoramic views of Beppu, Oita and around. On a clear day, just so beautiful, plus not too pricey. Well worth it.

An healthy adventure. Breathtaking overview upon the Beppu city and the mountains. Beautiful forest, and nice bush promenade at the summit.

We probably visited in an odd timing; neither full summer nor anything left of spring. So there wasn't the beautiful flowers in bloom to partake. The gondola ride up depends a lot on the weather; it was cloudy and therefore no scenery either. A nice walking trial when you reach the top though, but some construction was happening up there... I climbed the Tsurumi mountain from the west trailhead in May. The people who like mountain climbing is recommended. Miyama Kirishima was very beautiful. You can also climb here by using the ropeway.

This is a short 2-ish hour hike to the top. On a clear day you can see the sea...but we had snow instead! If you're too tired to hike down, take the ropeway!
