Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was in Beppu trying to kill time at night and saw that the Beppu Tower was still open and it would be cool to see at night. The entrance was very cheap, you pay using a ticket vending machine at the bottom and take the elevator up. I thought the viewing deck would have been a lot nicer. I know the building is older, but the windows were so dirty and full of large cracks, it was impossible to get a good photo. You would think they would want to take care of the glass here. Views were decent at night, you can see a good chunk of the city, I am sure the day time views are impressive. I would say it is worth it if there is nothing else to do, it would be cool but needs a lot of work!

We were roaming around the sea shore at Beppu in the limited time
that we had, when we saw the Beppu Tower from a distance. This
advertises the famous Japanese Asahi Beer (Asahi Dry is tasty!).
The tower is a landmark of the place, and is listed as a tourist
attraction, providing a vantage point for the small town. The
tower is not very high, and given our paucity of time (and the
really hot weather outside, making Junior and The Wife a bit
loathe to trudge up to the tower), we gave it a miss.

The beppu tower is the shortest tower in the whole of japan. The view isn’t that fantastic either. First you purchased the ticket from the vending machine then you take the lift up. Windows were dirty and there were cracks as well, so the photos we took did’nt turn out well. Personally, give it a miss unless you have time to spare and nothing to do.

Although the tower itself is rather old (opened 1957), on top it provides great (360 degree) views of the surrounding areas. The entrance fee is just 200 Yen, but be aware the tower is always closed on Wednesdays.

We arrived at 5:30pm on a September afternoon with the extended family. Arrived at the 17th floor (top viewing deck) and was greeted by a lovely lady asking to see our tickets. It is a cozy space with dated decor but the view was pretty good. However, my parents were very concerned by the number of cracked windows that they saw and my observant father noted significant rusting on the outside of the tower facing the ocean. Meanwhile my girls were squealing because many spiders (both large and small) have made their homes just on the other side of the glass. They had lots of fun running around counting them and got up to 25. There is no toilets on the viewing level. However, you can walk down a set of internal stairs (fascinating for people who love engineering as you can see the internal structure) to the level 16 to use the bathroom in the resturant "Celine". The restaurant was completely empty with dying plants decorating the window sills and curtains from the 80's which didn't help with convicing us to say. Overall, I think this is not worth the 200 yen per person up unless you love engineering of towers or spiders or cracked windows.

Tower is quite old, build in 1956-57 and you can see it, because some of the windows are cracked here and there. It's not as tall as some newer towers but the view over the city is still nice. And the price was cheap so it's worth going.

Beppu Tower which located at the main street of Beppu City, near the port and parks. If anyone wants to go there, like going up the tower is just a tower. Nevertheless, it is always there when you pass by anywhere in the main street. So, you can always see it.

Our guest house is quite near the tower, hence after dinner just take a stroll down the road to visit. The entrance fee is JPY200/pax, no time limit at the observation floor. This is 2nd shortest tower in Japan, there are cafe up there, but was closed during my visit. Very small observation area, can be viewed in 20 min max.
