It was quite a walk to get to past a beautiful tree lined wall and around to the gate and quiet garden but well worth the walk. Such a contrast to the castle with all its people and crowds. Very quiet so that you could...More

This was our first visit to a former Samurai house so it was an eye-opener. The house has been beautifully restored & surrounded by impeccably manicured gardens. We basically just basked ourselves in its splendour & even had a chance to savour traditionally prepared matcha...More

Easy walk from the castle, and a combined ticket saved a few yen. Very well worth the time - one of the best houses/gardens that we saw on our trip, quite large, so you need to take your time. The way the rooms are arranged...More

Saw this as part of a combination ticket with the Kumamoto castle. The grounds are well maintained and this is an excellent example of how the samurai lived. Worth seeing as part of the Kumamoto Castle area.

Besides me there was nobody there. Wonderful house and garden to explore design and layout. They give you a booklet as all signs are Japanese only. I found that sufficient. Fewer signs would have allowed for better images. After walking past the castle which was...More

We can walk to go to this place from Kumamoto Castle. There are many interesting treasures, but I liked the garden more. It was so beautiful that I took many many photos.
