The place is prepared for tourists. We saw loads and loads of tourists coming to this place in tour buses. We are among them. The fish and fruits are expensive here. We witnessed the " Giant Tuna Cutting Demonstration" ---a show merely cutting of small tunas! Many stores selling the pricey goods. There is a restaurant upstairs which serve "fresh... More

This establishment does not appear to be a real fish market. It is more like one section of the theme park, with a few small restaurants and shops. The sushi is overpriced and of average quality. Also, it is not easy to get to via public transport...it takes around 30 to 40 minutes of bus ride. However, if you must... More

Went to Wakayama for other reasons, decided to drop by Kuroshio fish market as I have extra time. Because I was not prepared, I wasn't expecting much, and it was much later in the day than recommended for all the activities there. - As I was ill prepared, I asked around for directions. A bus arrived right then, so I... More

A market for fresh seafood and fersh seafood barbies. A must see for any visitor to Wakayama and a must eat place too. The food is fresh and well presented, although not inexpensive, but you're there to take in the atmosphere. The barbecue wa smokey at first, but as the breeze grew, the smoke disappeared. The fruit market is a... More

Set up for international (or rather Asian) tourists. Next to the marina city which was really nothing in the day time. Parking is chargable. Seafood over-priced and of limited choices. Should go to the tore-tore market 45 mins away if you have a car. The marque selling local stuffs next to the market are worth for a walk tough.

Went to Kuroshio market with our JR Pass by train (then 5 minutes bus, also covered by JR Pass) from Wakayama Station to Marina Bay Wakayama. The chef, a very experienced young guy, spoke in impressive tone in Japanese, did both the demo and the explanation. The tuna fish was easily 60kg, yet it was a perfect knife skill show... More

Watch the tune cutting show and bought the tuna belly (Otoro) for lunch. Very good. Still feeling hungry bought a fish, some oysters, turban shells and octopus tentacles to BBQ at the outside tables. Very disappointed as these are not FRESH. Visited on 13 April 2016 with my wife.

We missed the tuna cutting show and came here just for lunch. Stalls not too many choices, we had a sashimi rice, tuna, scallop, and urchin platter. Food was fresh, but a bit expensive though. Just opposite is Porta Europa, very convenient for visiting 2 places same time but I don't want to see something European in Japan so we... More

Nestled in the corner and can be easy to miss, this market is very tourist oriented. Various places to get different styles of Japanese seafood. I opted for the tempura with Soba at 820¥. There is an outdoor eating area for you to sit down and enjoy your fresh catch.
