If you're interested in a trek through the countryside, get yourself a copy of "The Northern Extension of the Yamanobe no Michi" from Amazon and start at this temple or the nearby Shin Yakushi ji temple. There is also an old samurai trail to Yagyo...More

My early intention was to have a walk around the park. As early 6.30am, there's hardly anyone there. Then came one Japanese lady, want to lead me to this shrine. I couldn't say no the nice looking grandma, so I follow her. The walk up...More

This shrine is a bit of a walk (it's located in a different area to some of the other main temples in Nara Park), but the lanterns are lovely and it's worth a look.

Next to Gion and on the way to other Shrines on the main north-south thoroughfare, this shrine sits at the entrance to the enourmous Maruyama Park. Enjoy the scenery!

This shrine is located in Nara Park. It comprises a number of buildings, all painted in the familiar vermillion red colour. When we were there, we saw two weddings and a christening party going into the shrine for a blessing. A must see attraction when...More

It is nice to walk to the Shrine with the quiet greenly surrounding, appreciating the lanterns leading to the shrine and not forgetting the tame wild deer just wondering or lazing around. Love the bright colour of the shrine in the middle of the 'hill'....More

Kasuga Grand Shrine is a must see. It is spectacular, definitely one the most aesthetically appealing shrines. You can get a glimpse of it from the outside but to tour the interior there is a small fee. The shrine is a bit of an uphill...More
