The castle was destroyed and is a rebuild- with an elevator and modern flooring- so it doesn't look anything like the original did on the inside. Displays are in Japanese. Only fun thing was they provide samari clothing and swords free so you can take pictures of each other. Otherwise, save your money (though it was only 300 yen).

One of three castles I've visited in Japan. This one was the smallest, but also the least crowded compared to Himeji castle and Osaka castle. So if you prefer less crowded tourist attractions, this is the one to go for. Spectacular views from the castle, interesting exhibits and easy to get to by the tram. Also, it is close to... More

Great views from this castle. Beautiful castle. This was the only place we visited that visitors were able to dress up in traditional clothes and have their photo taken. Only a few people were able to be taken in any one morning or afternoon. It looked like good fun.

named the crow's castle for its black exterior (currently with splashes of colour in a city-wide promotion of washi tape), the grounds etc are free to enter, and only entering the levels of the castle costs a ticket - though if you get a joint one with Korakuen its cheaper :) - the views from the top are also pretty... The castle is so photogenic. Every angle is a great view. It is worth paying the entry fee to see the five levels within and you do get to play samurai in a gown and sword for a photo shot, all free. The views of Okayama from the top are spectacular, especially at cherry blossom time. The history and displays... More

One of the famous castles in Japan. You have a nice surrounding to wander. As most of big castles, you can visit inside, while climbing to the roof, seeing some pieces of the history (samurai armour, daily objects etc). This black castle contrasts a lot with the one of Himeji, the city next to Okayama.

This castle looks very impressive from the exterior but the inside is extremely disappointing. In fact it was an absolute waste of time. Nothing particularly interesting. ....very much a tourist rip off. Forget the castle , which in fact is a rebuild. Spend your time in the Korakuen gardens instead.

the castle is rebuilt (therefore there is an elevator inside!) and not large, but looks quite nice. There are some displays about the history of the castle. You can get a "combined" ticket for the castle and Korakuen near by. Currently there is a cross over of Okayama andmt (the masking tape brand) and the bottom part of the castle... More

The castle is sits on the river and is easily accessible. It is a splendid building well worth inspecting both inside and out. A delightful feature is the free “dress ups”. We spend a happy 15 minutes watching a boy of about 10 being dressed as a warrior.
