The shops along here can come across as a bit touristy, but they do have some very nice items. The ducks in the river were the highlight, so we just strolled and sat along the river watching them.

Every shop is a tourist souvenir or restaurant for over priced food and drink. Possibly the houses are original but so much tourist influence it looks like a theme park.

When in Kurashiki it is a must to have a walk in the old city, nice old style houses, nice restaurants and shops.

A good day trip location, you can take a walk, take a ride on the rickshaws or take a boat trip on the river. You may see couples taking wedding photos or having a boat trip on weekends. Can get crowded during holiday.

During the day the area round the canal gets very crowded with tour groups. But you can wander down fascinating side lanes for a long distance and hardly encounter another tourist. And in the evening the canal area is quiet and beautiful.

Even on a Saturday, Bikan Historical Quarters feel nothing like a tourist trap and is truly lovely for lengthy strolls. We loved it so much, we spent all day there! We rested and recharged at interesting cafes, restaurants and icy snack shops which are in...More

Having been to Venice, Italy, to Copenhagen, Amsterdam and the other Dutch cities, the amount of attention the Bikan gets, makes the mind boggle. Hundreds of picture taking tourists walk along this canal, eating blue jeans ice cream and feeling very happy. The beautiful trees...More
