There was heavy snow all around the castle. Not sure if its open or not but we just explore the outer castle walking through the snow. There was a light up at night in the garden opposite the castle but due to the heavy snow...More

Impressing architecture in a perfectly preserved shape. Some exhibits show the historical warefare and the change due to European invaders.

There is a light up at night in the garden opposite the Castle , a small entrance fee is payable. Since the Restuarant’s around the garden close around 8pm, it’s advisable to have dinner before you explore the garden. Closing time is 930pm

The small, self guided tour of the interior is very informative and the exhibits demonstrate traditional construction methods and also explain the functions of the various portions of the castle. The tour is...More

The castle was burned down a couple of times due to accidental fires. It used to have a grand castle tower, but they decided NOT to rebuild it after the fire caused by a lightning in 1602 and focused more on practical issues, namely defense...More

Didn't get a chance to see the inside as we came in late and it was raining. So we took pictures from the bridge over the main road at around sunset.

I actually find the castle more intriguing than Kenrokuen. Winter in Kenrokuen is underwhelming in my opinion.

Just across the bridge from Kenrokuen was the Kanazawa Castle Park which was at least spacious, if not impressive. It lacked the central main tower like most Japanese castles but the recently painted white structure looked scenic with some snow accumulating on the roofing. When...More
