During our recent visit to Kanazawa we spent a mid-morning to early afternoon at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. The art installations outside the museum were fun to see and interact with and exhibits within the museum were fascinating; particularly the swimming pool...More

During our stay in Kanazawa we didn't miss the chance to visit the contemporary art museum in the center of the city. One part of the museum (including the installations outside) can be visited free of charge. However if you want to see "The Swimming...More

We went there after reading glowing reports about the exhibits only to find over 50% closed - space being refitted. We qued for nearly 50 minutes to get tickets. No one advised us so little open nor was an apology tendered. Don’t waste your time!

The museum is circular in design and it is easy (and fun!) to get lost in going from gallery to gallery. My favorite exhibit was called The End of Civilization (by Jurgen Lehl) which featured plastic trash collected on beaches and fashioned into colorful lighting...More

A magnificent structure. Glass, cement and a lot of transparency. There are many contemporary works by very famous artists. I was lucky enough to visit it when it was submerged by snow ... incredible! One of the most beautiful contemporary art museums I've ever seen!

The building itself is worth the visit. So nicely designed by Sanaa Architects, this museum is really dedicated to contemporary art and artists. Mostly performances rather than pure art pieces even though you can find some. A must when you visit Kabazawa.

Disappointing visit. Many of the permanent exhibits are CLOSED including the swimming pool, l’origine du monde, 50% of the “you renew you”, and the Michael Lin. Information about these closures not on their website. In fact, the only ticketed permanent attraction that is open is...More

There was a long waiting line for tickets. Our one-day round trip bus tickets (and other sightseeing tickets) gave us a discount (1,000 to 800 JPY per person) on our entrance fees and Apple Pay was accepted here. Many unique works of installation art. You...More

We only went to the museum because we were hoping for a nice, warm, dry seat and a good cup of coffee after walking through the amazing gardens. From that point of view, we should just have continued on to the shopping... More
