Very interesting historically. Very few English explanations, but there are free guided tours in English part of the time.

Located downtown. One of 2 morning markets are in the front courtyard of this building. Toured on our own, lots of history of Takayama. You get a glimpse of how people lived, and how important Takayama was in the Edo period.

The Takayama Jinya is the only government facility that exists from the time before the Edo period. A beautiful and highly recommended visit if in Takayama. Truly breathtaking beauty!

Very interesting site with lots of stuff to see. Garden was dry so not too impressive although the potential is there. Oldest site for Edo Bakufu (shogun government) although largely rebuilt. To make it 5 stars, it needs the garden to be livened up to...More

I thought the merchants were sweet. Loved the fruit!!! It is the meeting place for the Takayama food and sake walking tour. The merchants do not speak English!!

Well restored government building from the Edo period. It gives an interesting insight into the feudal life in Japan in those days. One can wander around in the large building and former storage rooms. Plenty of comments in English. A must do in Takayama.

This fully restored historical government house, allows access into all rooms within this lovely building. Each room has a description of what it was used for & display of items found/used there. The route through the building allows access both inside & out.

Just a complex of old building, used by government then. Not much special, but during winter time, covered in snow, the area around this building to the Nakabashi bridge was super nice to see and enjoy on foot.
