I found this museum frustrating. Clearly only a few years old and in a lovely converted storehouse with a garden and all mod-cons (several automatic doors, swish toilets, several new TVs etc), we were expecting something good. However there isn't a stimulating atmosphere, the artefacts aren't creatively presented, and they give minimal information (written, videos) - 95% of which was... More

This is the start of the Higashiyama Walking Course so it's certainly worth a visit and it's free. It has a number of exhibition rooms each taking a different theme. We particularly enjoyed the one that displayed some of the floats and festival artefacts. There is also a room which shows a variety of videos of Takayama.

The museum which is free to enter has lots of interesting exhibits, but most of the descriptions are just in Japanese.

We had a short walk here, the staff are extremely helpful, this beautiful place provides a snapshot of history and culture of the region. Not a lot of familiar language descriptions, but take your time and it is worth the visit.

Beautiful museum where you can learn a lot about the history of Takayama. Unfortunately niet all the signs are in English, so there will be Some guesswork involved. I recommend that you get all the stamps that are scattered around the museum.

It is a nice museum, free entry, that has nothing spectacular but is good to walk through. And it is easy to find, in the city center.

This free museum is comprised of old merchants buildings linked together with modern walkways. Has good exhibits of Takayama's past with reasonable english signage. Good place to spend a rainy or cold afternoon.
