Thirty-plus buildings from the Hida region were relocated to this beautifully landscaped outdoor museum. Excellent signage explained the significance of the buildings and the way of life of their inhabitants. The trail was well-marked. There are kid-friendly interactive exhibits. It takes about half a day to see everything. It was very hot in Takayama when we visited in May; we... More

A 210 yen bus ride from the bus station near to Route Inn Grantia Hotel, this is a very interesting reconstructed village. Entry is 700 yen; there is a pretty lake with swans, ducks and large carp. There are several of the rice straw thatched buildings similar to those at the famous Shirakawago. When we visited in May, there were... More

The old buildings have been moved to this picturesque site. We walked from the train station, and caught a taxi back. An enjoyable visit.

Had some 2 hours to wander around the site looking at the various historic houses. Lake by entrance with a waterwheel on the far side. Houses with a lot of information scattered around the lake at different levels showing development through time. Worth a visit

Worth the 700¥ entry per person. We walked there too which was just fine if you are happy to. Big grounds to explore and learn about the old ways of life in the harsh winters.

It certainly is a nice place to enjoy. Good for a 2 hours of visit. Quiet. You will get a taste of Japanese old style living.

Great rural situation and a relief from the crowds. A few nice touches as well as the opportunity to look at the way the villagers lived. Surprisingly large houses. Nice touches include being able to ring the huge bell, feed the fish (you can buy the food) and they have pretty parasols that you can either use to shade the... More

Hida no Sato is located on the other side of the town and can be reached by bus. It gives a good overview from the classic Japanese village life in a very nice environment. The agricultural items and devices, technics that were used in daily life, buildings and clothes are on display for the visitors. There are also nice stories... More

Do not try to walk, far from Takayama. We took a 20 min minute taxi drive to the village, dropped off at the bus stop back to Takayama (bus every 30 minutes). Good experience of life in the old Japan. Great village atmosphere with different houses showing different lifestyles such as farmhouses, the woodworker house, house/museum for silkworm breeding etc.... More
