If you're looking to explore Hida by bike, I highly recommend Satoyama Experience. They were professional, had quality equipment, and shared a lot of information I otherwise would not have learned. Our guide (Akiko) was so friendly and spoke perfect English. If you want to bike at a specific pace, I'd suggest a private departure rather than a group trip.

We had a lovely time on our half day tour. Our 3 boys (13, 10 & 4) enjoyed the riding, the friendly guides, the informative talks (as did we) and not wasting time with poor navigating parents!

Akiko was a wonderful guide, very friendly, interesting and perfectly understandable in English. The 3.5h tour included enough breaks and is mostly flat, so perfectly doable for people of all ages. Taking this tour is a perfect way of exploring Hida-Fukurawa area without having to plan or organise anything yourself, apart from booking the tour and showing up on time... More

We took a 4 hour guided cycling tour of Hida Furukawa for the three of us. Our guide was Hiro who gave us a really interesting and informative afternoon, but most of all he made the tour such fun! We saw loads, learned loads, chatted to locals and were really well looked after.

We were in Takayama for 2 nights and really enjoyed our Food and Culture tour with Masumi. A highlight was learning about sake and tasting some of the different sake varieties. I really gained an appreciation for sake. We also enjoyed learning about the different types of food available at the markets and at speciality shops. We tasted some delicious... More

Hisa Matsuo our tour guide did an amazing job...providing insight and access to Takayama's culture that would otherwise have been a complete mystery. He knows his neighbours and he introduces you to them. He is fully conversant in the local culture and he shares it in a tremendously fun and open way. Really made our time in Takayama interesting and... More

Akiko took us to places we would have walked straight past. A good way to spend a couple of hours discovering a very interesting and well preserved old town.

Beside shopping, sightseeing and delicious food, the cycling at the countryside held by Satoyama Experience is really an amazing activity you shouldn't missed in Japan. Its good for friends, couple and even the whole family. They provide the necessity equipment and what you need to bring is your joyful heart to enjoy. The 3 hours journey is really too short... Thanks for a wonderful afternoon tour of Takayama. Momo was an excellent guide. We loved the area and the unique experience of having a guided walk through such an historic area. It was a great experience to go into so many shops and taste everything from tofu, miso, sweets to sake with our own guide. We never would have had... More

These guys have looked after us so well - booking buses and hotels, sending us on a great bus tour to Shirokawa-go, and finally taking us in a wonderful cycle tour of Hida Furakawa. Wonderful, helpful, kind, and friendly. Highly recommended!
