This is a really a magically experience. If you find yourself in Gifu, please make your way here. It's a paper-mache buddha! It's beautiful and it's interesting to see the entire collection of clay monks who helped with this project. Each one depicted with their...More

This indoor, 13.7m great Buddha statue was completed in 1832 after 38 years of construction. It is one of the top 3 great Buddha statues in Japan, alongside the ones in Nara and Kamakura. Can't help feeling marvelled at the skills and work of the...More

Drop in for a visit. It costs 200yen (about $2) to enter. The big Buddha is truly a sight to see. Sit down and take it all in. The staff can also provide you with an English information sheet about the history of it.

I think it's one of the biggest budas in Japan with 13 meters. 200 yens to come in the temple, just the buda. Nothing special to be honest.

I loved the story behind the Great Buddha in Gifu. So many of Japan's finest attractions are replicas from days gone by, but the Great Buddha has stood the test of time and continues to watch over the city nearly 200 years later. I almost...More
