We cruised by here on the way to Egypt. Since there were multiple warnings about prates on the open sea we all laid as low as possible.

Aden's Gem
Aug 2016
dated since the 11th century, the best place for you to oversee aden from the mountain. You need to watch you next step as you climb the mountain as well as in the castle, you gonna need to use your phone flashlight to walk between the rooms. The outside court is the best part, gives you the sense of how it was.
In general, I could spend a great deal of time in the castle. Just watch out for sunstroke, don't forget to grab a water bottle and a hat...trust me

Great view

Great view and beautiful hot weather. You will feel tired after walking on the stairs, but at the end it is worth it. It is sad that the government or non-profit organization taking care of this historical place or castle.

worth climbing the hill
Feb 2014 • Family
One of the best attractions in Aden.. the city looks different from the castle. I loved it. It was really tough climbing up several hundreds pf steps, but it was a breathtaking experience. Very splendid view of the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden and the city. I am proud of old-age Yemenis who think very strategically.
It is a must-see and the best time is early morning or right before the sun set.

Sirah Fort.
Oct 2013 • Solo
In the old days climbing up to the fort was hard work. One had to work their way up through the rock, shale and rubble picking the best route.

When I was there 3 years ago this MARVELLOUS stairway was in place. Very easy to climb, no effort atall. Must have cost a fortune. There was no one at the gate so I did not pay anything. If it had been locked I would just have climbed over it. Depending on where the sun is the rooms inside can be dark. And there are Round Shafts descending through the floor. No idea how deep or what they are for. But A great site to visit.

Great Historic Place
Jul 2014 • Couples
It's one of the touristic landmarks in Aden, it defines the insistence and bravery of the people at that time. This Castle has served as an impregnable Wall against the invaders.

The way towards the castle is about 7 minutes walk as a Maximum for a young person, it's a little bit steep so it's better to wear a boot; but it's OK if you wearing a high heels shoes. You will have to pay ( 100 YER = 0.46 $ ) / person as an entrance fee.

When you walk up, you can enjoy the view of the Indian Ocean along the horizon and in the other side you can see the whole city of Crater district, it's a magnificent view and marvelous. But as usual; there is no care from the Government for such Historic locations, so you will find borders of the castle have fallen. You will find some old Canon with its head down, and there is so many writing on the walls.
If you plan to sit up there for a while, make sure to bring cold water with you because there is no shops or street seller in this place, and as an additional energizer and rest, you can get some juice and biscuits to enjoy your stay.
If you have a family try to come at the sunset time or before, because at this time the sun become softer and the weather gets cooler.

A climb into history
Jan 2014 • Family
The Sira Castle is less of a residential castle and more of a fortification guarding the old port of Aden; there are gun emplacements and a rather small citadel. The view from the top is immense and well worth the 30 minute climb (for a middle aged person like me). On two sides are views of Aden town and the fishing port while the other two allow one to view the blue waters of the Indian Ocean as far as the eye can see.
