The Museum is right in the Heart of Sharjah and shows us the life in olden times. You get to know about thatched houses, kitchen and other utensils, household items of old times etc. Al Hisn Museum and other historical and cultural places are nearby! Buzzing streets of Rolla with lots of business and commercial establishments are nearby. There is... More

I visited this old house just after the Museum of Islamic Civilization. It is walking distance and located in the Heritage area of Sharjah. They had a local exhibition going on while I was there. Some of the art was a bit too abstract for my taste, but I did enjoy seeing the architecture of the building itself. Entrance was... More

We did a long and warm walk from the Blue Souk to this Museum, only to find it closed for renovations. So call ahead before you go to be sure it is operating. Also interesting was that there was no signage indicating this was a museum, until you get close to the entrance. We walked around the entire building befor... More

Sharjah may not be everyone's top destination to visit in the Middle East, which is a great shame as it has much to offer the culture vulture. This museum is excellently organised - leading visitors on a linear journey through the emirate from early pearl diving, through the customs and etiquette of jewellery, the offering of coffee and wedding rituals,... Lots of separate heritage buildings to explore, and excavation and restoration is still going on. Interesting to see that they converted the old fashion hanging kerosene lamps to accept compact fluorescents. There is also a small plantation of palm trees on the site. This visit to Sharjah is free and is included in the two-day HOHO pass from Dubai.
