Good cultural drop in, mixed bunch of people and hard sell techniques in Carpets, Leather
Feb 2019
We visited in the 2nd/3rd week of February 2019, climate was warm, nice, couple of rainy patches but on a good day, can sit by the pool. The second hotel was downgraded by them and was of a lesser quality than advertised. This was an expedition with extremes. On the one hand you have very experienced and educated tour guides showing you places you might have missed, giving you an insight into Northern Cypriot (Turkish) culture where on the other, visits to factory outlets where your subject to fashion shows and a hard sell. All these are shared with a mixed bunch of people and can make it a more social event too, it's there if you want it. You definitely benefit I think in having experienced educated tour guides who are able to tell you things which I think you would be lucky to pick up on i.e. other prophets who may have wrote chapters which didn't get included in the Bible. Interestingly, St Mary's Church in Fairford, Glos, 15thC has medieval (28) stained glass windows depicting some of these which the guide spoke about. You'll never be taught these interesting differences or inclusions/exclusions at any denomination I've come across, so makes the visit all the more worth while. The rub I think is the hard sell. Being bussed into an outlet store which focuses on either jewellry, leather, carpets can leave you feeling trapped, bombarded with intensity and they are very good at isolating and singling you out if you think you will get your wallet or purse out. We ended up buying a 6.5k carpet from Pashaport - we never went there to buy anything, just have a holiday! The carpet is a work of art and Pashaport as a company was good to deal with. We bought the carpet on 16/2/19 and took delivery of it on 19/12/19 and they were very good, quick and efficient communicators. When the carpet is delivered, UPS, will not allow you to inspect the box, you have to pay the rest, less your deposit before they hand it over. Writing a cheque is your guarantee that everything is ok which is not what Pashaport said i.e. you check it then if everything is ok, you write the cheque. Ok in summary, great place to go, RDS have a specific marketing strategy and the educated tour guides were great. Would we use them again; probably not but oddly, we would buy a handmade Turkish carpet again even though we know nothing about antiques or art! p.s. I would have added photos but apparently files are too large...enjoy.

I went on a Tuesday and the market was open for both clothes and food, I took the bus from kusadasi to aydin and that took an hour then caught the number 1bus that stopped outside the market! It's lovey trip there are restaurants around and loads of shops depends what you looking for.
This is not touristic, so not many peoe speak English however people are really nice and very helpful.
Food was amazing and bus times are very punctual. Ever ten minutes or less there is a bus.
Very safe lovely small city

It is the shopping center of Aydin. You can also find restaurants and movie theaters inside. It is an outdoor, so not good on rainy days.

A group of 6 of us are on our last day of our holiday with RSD.
We were quite shocked to find out that the whole of our first week would be travelling on a coach for hours on end and living out of our suitcases in lots of different hotels. On 2 of the days (from Izmir to Rhodes), we travelled for 10-12 hours by coach, with short stop offs at very expensive service stations which were clearly ripping off tourists. Luckily, we were brave enough to venture a little way away and found some proper Turkish shops which sold things in Turkish Lira rather than euros and worked out to be an awful lot cheaper than the service stations.
On the 12 hour day, we didn't have a lunch break and were not told before hand to bring any food with us, so we were starving by the time we arrived at our hotel at 8pm when we had to go straight in for our dinner as we had missed 1 hour serving time already. At one of the hotels, there was a dress code which we were not told about and we were turned away as we were wearing flip flops.
At the different sites we visited, we had hardly any time to explore. We had 1 hour at pamukkale and 1.5 hours at Ephesus.
Our tour guide was quite rude, very unhelpful and was clearly trying to earn as much commission as he could out of extra trips, the rug factory, the jewellery factory, the leather factory (where we spent more time than we did at the sites) and the all inclusive package for the last week. He told us that the hotel would be very far away from any restaurants and shops and that we would have to wait for about an hour or 2 for a Dolmus. He also told us that we should not mix with the local people or eat their food as we may be served seagull or dog. He recommended that everyone should go for the all inclusive package and stay in the hotel. We found this very strange as this company are supposed to be encouraging people to come to Turkey to show them that it is safe and to try to get their tourism back after the things that have been happening in Syria.
Luckily, we have been to Turkey before and we know that the people are very friendly and cook amazing food.
When we told our guide that we didn't want the all inclusive package, he tried to recommend it again another 3 times. When we still declined, he tutted and waved his hand at us as he walked away which showed us that he was annoyed.
We were promised the best hotel for the last week of our holiday (which ended up being the worst). It had 178 steps to get down to the beach and the majority of the people on the trip were elderly. The outdoor pool was DIRTY and was only cleaned when another few coach loads of people arrived.
On our first night in our last hotel, we got the Dolmus into the town centre (which came immediately) and it took 5 minutes to get to the town centre. On the other nights we went to ladies beach which was just around the corner from the hotel and had so many bars and restaurants. In all of the places that we have been to, we have met the most friendly people who have gone out of their way to make us feel welcome and happy. They couldn't believe it when we told them what our tour guide had been saying.
Overall, the cultural tour was very disappointing and a bit of a scam but we made the most of it. The second week was great being able to mix with the local people and explore for ourselves. It was just a shame that the hotel wasn't very nice and that the people who had been talked into getting the all inclusive package were miserable and wanted to go home.

We found our tour to be good value for money. We were escorted by a very good and informative guide. The hotels in general were of a high standard, especially the last week long stay.
However please be aware that often you are taken on shopping tours of their choosing.
If things go wrong with any purchase made on the tour RSD will NOT take any responsibility no matter what the cost or loss. the following description took place at a carpet warehouse that RSD took us to on one of their tours:-

Please be aware that if you visit this carpet warehouse, or are taken there as a holiday excursion trip, they practice a dishonest selling trick that I call ‘the last minute scam’.

To purchase a carpet you have to negotiate with the salesperson in a separate room and in this particular case the price they quote is usually way too high. After your short stay there the time comes for you to leave to board a coach or to go to the next place on the trip. It is only then that they will approach you with a change of mind and agree to the price that you considered reasonable and mentioned before. The problem is that the necessary details needed to complete the purchase, including the transport of the carpet to your home address, are now all compressed into a very short time before the coach leaves. They take this opportunity to swap labels and prepare a false selling contract. Consequently in the hurry to get things done it is very easy to sign the sales contracts on a carpet that you did not intend to buy. Usually it will be a much smaller and cheaper one than your intended purchase. They will also insist that the carpet be sent to your home address free of charge. This is all part of the scam. This gives them time to send the wrong carpet. Therefore if you really must buy a carpet from this place please be advised that:-
1. You should always take a photograph of the carpet you intend to buy and the label at the back of the carpet before leaving no matter what pressure you are under to board the coach.
2. Read very carefully the sales contract to make sure that it is the carpet you're buying is the one you want before signing.

My advice is to avoid the place altogether. Despite a very reassuring talk from the management and from an Englishman who was working for them that everything they do is aboveboard please be aware they are not to be trusted.

Having said this I would recommend this holiday - but be careful when shopping

RSD advertised very very cheap holidays but beware. Be prepared to be forced to buy optionals. If you do not complied, the tour leader will made your life hell. We were bullied and intimidated into buying the optionals and meal packages, but we refused be bullied by him. He make our life very difficult for the rest of the tour. He also told us we will be black listed from booking with any RSD tours. He didn't know he was doing us a favour as we will NEVER EVER book with RSD again. First and the last time. If you do as you are told by the tour leader you will be OK. Like the lamb to the slaughter!
