My husband and I went and was lucky that a lovely elderly Turkish man was sitting in the shade I think waiting to offer a tour. He had been digging there for 25 years. He walked round with us. The information he showed us was...More

A beautiful place to visit and we were blown away by the history. However, a local was next to us when we were looking at some of the ruins and started giving us a brief history of the place, he then explained some of the...More

2000 year old ruins very close to Kalkan. A must visit place on the Lycian way. However, if you travel in July - August, make sure you avoid 12 - 16 hours, since it can get extremely hot.

This site has been occupied by a variety of people from the 7th century BC. The original people there were the Lycians and see some of their writing carved into a large stone and Lycian tombs. There was a large theatre which had been built...More

Although this site feels a little neglected by the Turkish authorities, it is still absolutely amazing! Thousands of years of history unfold as you explore this incredible site. Well worth a visit, and it's only a short drive outside of Kalkan.

If you like your history then Xanthos is definitely worth a visit. It is easy to get to from Kalkan by Dolmus only 7 Turkish lira and 10 Turkish lira to enter the site. It is over a large area with a great amphitheatre and...More

Much to see of the site even if the best bits are in London. A very fine Main Street and loads of curious stone sarcophagi in the cemetery. The modern seating sculpture is excellent.

It was an unusual and enjoyable experience to be able to wander through an archaeological site with no boundaries. You can walk up to the top of the amphitheatre and through the streets as in ancient times. You need a guide or a book for...More

Although we’ve been coming to this part of Turkey for over 12 years this is the first time we visited Xanthos and unlike the disappointing ‘sunken city’ at Kekova is one of those places you ust need to explore quietly and soak up the scale...More
