Alanya landmark
Aug 2021
The Red Tower is set just beneath the Alanya Castle and hill, by the old port.
As the rest of the Castle it was built by Seljuks during the 13 c when they conquered the area. It's an octagonal brick structure with a small museum inside.
You can admire the tower for free from very close, but it's best to buy a combo ticket which also includes the Damlatas cave and the old shipyard.

This is great if you lay bricks but fine for history buffs, you have to pay, but this also gives you entrance fee for the cave which in fact is a good walk away, but ticket valid for next day.

The Red Tower is really nice to visit, I personally liked the most that you can walk along the walls that lead to the tower from the fortress (a small part) because it is impossible on the fortress itself. It has a couple of floors, the stairs are quite steep so I would not recommend people who have difficulty moving to climb the floors. People who go with small children are best to have a scarf or stretcher attached to their chest to make it easier to move. The view from the fortress itself on the harbor and the shipyard is very beautiful. The ticket is 10tl per person, but if you buy it complete with a ticket for the shipyard, there are 15tl together.

Beautiful architecture and wonderful views, very hilly and steep though, so not really suitable for older people or disabled

The Red Tower - " but don't miss the access to the old walls "
Aug 2019
The Red Tower is located at the end of the harbour, just up from the jetty.
The opening hours where 9.00 am - 19.00 pm in the summer.
Entrance fee was 7 TL or 10 TL with the Shipyard or 14 TL with Shipyard & Damlatas cave.
Four floors to visit, plus the turret with fantastic views at the top.
As this is a medieval tower, there are lots of steep ,narrow, steps to climb, so not suitable for people with disabilities, or small children.
Displays, models, old photos, on each floor.
A must do, is on the second floor, walk out onto the old walls, the only way you can access it, again great views, but a lot of people miss it.

I could'n be more surprised when I went in to the Red tower. With skilful lighting and all those arches I felt like I'd been in a cathedral or is some other holy place. There was quiet so it was easy to relax, enjoy the atmosphere and forget everything else. In a first floor I felt like I was in an other world and could spend there hours. NExt floors up where also surprise, especially if you have never been in a place like this. If you want to go also to the upper floors and enjoy all views and details you need to climb very old and steep stone stairs and have enough power to do it, but it is definietly woth of it. This has been one of the biggest surprises here in Alanya, and I recommend to visit with time and with camera.

Lovely view

Walking up towards the castle, near the harbour, the tower is a must see place in Alanya. We paid 10 liras to get inside, lovely view from it. We went up through the steps inside, interesting the architecture. It takes not too long but it was a lovely sunny day and the view and the pictures from the tower were amazing.

Very interesting , lots of information, the steps up the stairs are very high, so if you've got limited mobility you might struggle.Great view from the top!
