we are both not well practised motorbike drivers so we decidet to do the loop by car. we rented a small car at north wheels (1000 bath per day) in chiang mai and did the loop very relaxed in 12 days. of course it is possible to do it much faster. it was easyly doable with the small car, but... My family drove from Bangkok -> Chiangmai -> Pai -> Mae Hong Son. I've sat throughout the journey ( of course with stopovers ) The road curves are actually the highlight of the trip. But if you have motion sickness, it is not advisable at all. Because of the long drive, we didn't really have the mood to go for... More

Three of us drove from Chiang Mai through Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son in a day. We spent 3 nights in Mae Hong Son and loved it. Visited waterfalls and got a long-tailed boat to the border with Myanmar. Drove on to Pai via the fish cave, hot springs, beautiful waterfall, Moo Ban Rak Chinese village, which is just... More

If you're a rider or love bikes. This is the route you MUST take. I rented a bike from POP located in Chiang Mai. At 700baht a day, I rented a CRF250(off road bike). It was pretty New with mileage only clocked at 1800km. For the older CRF250, you can get it for 600baht. Do note that that is the... More

We had never scooters before (naughty naughty) so we went about this cautiously and probably a lot slower than most.. but we loved it. The roads are mostly empty accept for certain parts like leaving chiang mai and between pai and chiang mai. We chose to go clockwise to help us practise. The first part was a little dull but... As part of our Northern Thailand journey we came along this loop from Mae Sariang through Mae Hong Son to Pai. Mainly drove along the single road with 1869 curves and no straight. Brilliant drive. One of the best roads I've been on.

We drove this and it was a lot of fun. Great views, windy curvy road. If driving use lots of caution. This would be great on a bike, but I also saw a couple bikes down hitting loose gravel on the curves. we stopped to help a group of four Chinese who hit gravel, they were lucky they didn't go... To be fair, I didn't drive the whole loop but I did several day trips along the loop from Mae Hong Son, which is what I'm basing this review on. The day trips I took went to: - Ban Rak Thai and a Shan village on the way to Ban Rak Thai (on a road to the left when approaching)... More

The place is actually very good. But during mae hong son roads , every loop seems same. 1864 loops :).. So that you can put 1000 loops to your favourites. Cheers Ernur

This loop gives plenty to do and might take multiple days if you would visit all temples and waterfalls. we rented a car to do this loop and stayed in off-track hostels. We skipped Pai and did the Lot Cave instead. Go and stay at that lodge and get yourself a kajak tour, wonderful xperience. from mai hon song we... More
