Don’t bother going for one day it’s about 4 hrs there and 5 hrs back. Hire a private car which will allow you to see the beautiful places around without being ruled by a five minute stop here and there. Very tiring the golden triangle...More

You can do the Golden triangle tour from Chiang Mai, you don't have to be in Chiang Rai its just a longer trip.

We only viewed Laos and Myanmar from Chiang Rai Golden Traingle area.
