We planned our trip to Tanzania late last year with our itinerary and accommodations. After sending our plan to several companies, we compared prices, communication, and overall responsiveness. We chose Meru Slopes, who not only helped us refine our itinerary but also made all the necessary bookings. From the moment we were picked up at the airport to the end of our journey, everything went smoothly.

This was an absolutely perfect and joyful trip, and a significant part of that is thanks to our incredible guide, Samwel. Over ten days, he helped us achieve nearly all the wildlife sightings we had dreamed of before coming to Tanzania. Samwel would discuss with us which animals we aimed to see in the different national parks or areas, using his 16 years of experience and sharp instincts to lead us to find them. We were thrilled to witness the Big Five, observe seven river crossings in just two and a half days—two of which were on a mega scale—and countless lions, including rare moments of feeding, hunting, and even a private sighting of an adorable lion cub. We also had close encounters with the leopard, 3 cheetah brothers, and many more.

Samwel’s extensive experience allowed him to often predict the movements of the animals, enabling us to outmaneuver other vehicles and secure the best viewing spots. What impressed us even more was that, despite his years of guiding, Samwel remained passionate and enthusiastic. He would engage us in conversations about local culture, history, and animal behavior. And whenever he suddenly accelerated and became serious, we knew something exciting was about to happen and prepared our cameras. One of the things we appreciated most was Samwel’s respect for the wildlife. No matter the speed of the vehicle, he drove steadily and carefully, ensuring that our presence did not disturb the animals.

He also communicated with us in advance about the next day’s departure times, park exits, and special timings, ensuring our itinerary ran like clockwork. Even small requests, like watching the sunset at a particular hotel, were perfectly fulfilled.

Meru Slopes and Samwel made thorough preparations for our trip. The food was good, and the vehicle was in good condition. No matter how dusty the previous day had been, the car was always spotless inside and out the next morning. Samwel provided us with fresh bottled water daily, and the car was always stocked with Coca-Cola, beer, wine, and more.

This trip exceeded all our expectations, and we highly recommend Meru Slopes and Samwel to anyone planning a safari in Tanzania.

We had a fabulous 5-day Lodge safari to Tarangire, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Our lodges were top notch, the jeep was comfortable, and Meru Slopes also organized a custom stop at the Olduvai Gorge Museum on the way. We do highly recommend this itinerary; the three parks were a great combination and the museum was a lovely stop in one of the most important archaeological settings in the world.

Our guide Douglas is a very experienced tour guide and extremely knowledgable in wildlife biology and the national parks of Tanzania (in fact, he even went to college in the field). He spoke English perfectly and also shared some insights into life in Tanzania. I don't think we could have gotten any better guide. We felt like we were in good hands and the whole tour felt very relaxed despite some long days and early morning departures.
We saw ALL the animals one could see, plenty of lions up close, and despite traveling in peak season, Douglas managed to avoid the worst crowds. Importantly, he also respected the wildlife and never engaged in chasing any animals.

We booked a mid-range lodge safari and expected rather basic accommodation in the national parks but were surprised that we stayed in some of the nicest lodges around. Overall the trip felt more luxurious than what we expected from a "mid-range safari". Food was good, both the included breakfasts and dinners we had in the lodges and lunch/snacks during the day.

It was important to us to book with a local company, ensuring that all of our money stayed in Tanzania. We also got some offers from Western Safari companies which offered basically the same itinerary starting at 20% higher prices and I highly doubt they would have been any better than booking with Meru Slopes.

Thank you so much for sharing your exciting experience with Meru Slopes Tours! We're really glad that you had a fabulous 5-day Lodge safari to Tarangire, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. It's great to hear that the lodges, jeep, and custom stop at the Olduvai Gorge Museum met your expectations. We're delighted that you highly recommend this itinerary and enjoyed the unique combination of parks and the museum's historical significance. We're proud to have had Douglas as your guide, whose extensive knowledge and experience enhanced your tour. We're glad you felt comfortable and relaxed throughout, even during the long days and early mornings. It's fantastic that you were able to witness so many animals up close, including lions, while avoiding the crowds and respecting the wildlife. We're pleased that the mid-range lodge safari exceeded your expectations with its luxurious accommodations and delicious meals. Supporting a local company was important to you, and we're honored that you chose Meru Slopes over other options. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure in Tanzania. Warm regards, Meru Slopes Tours and Safaris

Unique experience that I really Recommendation to do at least once in a lifetime.
Since before Reservation we were put in touch with Almachius who clarified and managed all our doubts / needs.
The program was presented to us from the beginning in all the details (itinerary, where we would sleep, what included etc).
We did the private budget safari, so “budget” solution with 3 nights in a tent and 3 in lodges / hotels outside but a car just for us.
Our Guide Jackson was with us 7/7 days and helped us in everything, stopping at our every need and request.
The very spartan but unique tent experience is a bit part of the journey, however hearing the animals from the tent in the middle of the park at night is priceless!
Surprise of the holiday our chef Yohane, who for 7 days has stuffed us with anything, breakfasts / lunches / dinners always super varied and super abundant, as well as really good! Always eaten by God, too much, and never had any stomach problems.
I strongly Recommendation to go on safari and I can say do it with Merù Slopes!

First of all, let me start with a quick conclusion: I recommend it.

We conducted a 6-day tour consisting of Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangiri. I thought a lot about it, and I kept hesitating because I was worried that their (Africa) payment system and actual travel would be messed up and whether I could trust them, but I made up my mind and chose this company. There was no particular reason, and I chose this place because it was the most cost-effective configuration within a reasonable price range.

In conclusion, it was the best choice. I had a lot of luck, and was able to successfully see animals that are commonly referred to as the Big 5 and other animals. I felt like I could only see the tip of the leopard's legs, but other than that, I was able to watch the animals with great satisfaction, and I was able to truly see and feel nature by watching the zebra and wildebeest herds migrate.

The local staff provided a delicious meal, and I felt like I was getting my money's worth. Just because I came alone, they prepared a personal tent for me without any demands like sharing a tent with another person who came alone, and there was no inconvenience.

To be honest, I think the guide is half the luck. I met a really good guide. It was Robert, and he was very enthusiastic about looking for animals and was actually good at finding them. Most of the time, I felt like I was just following them around when I called on the radio, but depending on the location, I was very satisfied with the fact that they would go to the other side of the car instead of just gathering so I could see the animals more comfortably, or they would get there as quickly as possible while passing other cars. It was scary. As I talked to people from other tour companies at the campsite and looked at the photos they took, I thought that I had a very blessed trip.

And if you don't care much about accommodation, you can get a free stay in Arusha by asking about accommodation when making a reservation and sending emails to Geofrey. There seems to be a difference depending on the time of year and whether there is room or not, but when I inquired about staying for two days with one day to spare on the day of arrival and departure from Tanzania, they let me sleep in the hotel they run for free. There was a reception, office, and restaurant on the second floor. Perhaps because my initial expectations were very low, I thought I was really good at traveling.

If I were to roughly recommend it... I have such good memories that I would make a reservation through this company even if my parents were to go there.

I booked my tour(10 days and 9 nights) after extensive research(thanks for this community). I provided my itenrary to multiple TOs. Meru slope answers all my questions in timely manner and help me refine it. It also has the competitive price.

Samwel is our fanatasic guide who elevates our overall experience. He has many many years experience and we saw 7 river crossing(including 2 mega one) in 2 days. He would ask for our needs(elephant and cheetah) and pay special attention to what we want to see and give us many good surprise throughout our trips. The car is also very well maintained and cleaned up every morning and drinks are stocked. The experience is surreal. Recommend samwel to everyone who wants to see wild animal.

only one area improvement during planning and booking. I booked the trip 10 - 11 months in advance and no one would imagine some hotels are soldout(probably blocked by the hotel or booked by the event). After I paid my deposit,i noticed the availability issue before Meru slope. it resolved smoothly by finding alternative lodges once I informed the availability issue to Meru Slope. It might be norm for TO to book after deposit or without checking availability when making plan 10 months in advance, I highly believe all TOs should check availability beforehand or immediately after deposit to make sure no later plan change(most lodges can check availability online)

We booked the 10-day private active Tanzania experience that included: 8 Days Safari (Lake Manyara /Tarangire/Serengeti/Ngorongoro/Lake Eyasi), Private Day Tour and Hike in Kilimanjaro National Park, and Materuni Waterfalls, Kikuletwa Chemka Hot springs, Coffee tour. This was an incredible jam packed experience that gave us a very thorough experience of so many amazing things Tanzania has to offer. Geofrey was great to work with ahead of time to organize and book this once in a lifetime adventure. Our safari guide, Jacob, was unbelievably knowledgeable about all the wildlife we experienced in all the various National Parks we visited. His ability to spot animals and communicate with other guides to find leopards, cheetahs, and lions never disappointed as we saw so many big cats!! He also prepared beautiful picnic tables for us every day for lunch with delicious food. His driving skills on rough African roads was exceptional and we always felt very safe with Jacob. He left us thoroughly fulfilled by our safari experience. During these safari days, we also had many cultural experiences that were very authentic to interact with local tribes. We really appreciated all these cultural exposure opportunities as well. After the completion of this unbelievable safari experience we had two more spectacular days. We did a day hike in Kilimanjaro National Park with our driver Herman and mountain guide Esmile. Esmile was such an experienced mountaineer and it was a joy doing this day hike to the Mandara Hut!! The next day Herman picked us up and we went to the gorgeous Materuni Waterfalls with a coffee tour afterwards. But it wasn't just a simple coffee tour, we went through the entire process of shucking the coffee beans, roasting, grinding and brewing our very own cup of coffee! It was delicious and extremely educational. Overall, this was a trip of a lifetime and everything with Meru Slopes was wonderful!! I'd recommend them to anyone and highly suggest doing this variety of experiences if you have time because we don't feel like we missed out on anything!

We booked a mix of camping and lodge safari for 7 days (6 nights) as a private safari in January 2025. Our initial concerns about payment and understanding (which took place in English) were totally unfounded. Everything worked out fine from start to finish and we are more than happy to have Slopes at Meru.

The boys are outstandingly good! Jerome answered all questions and ambiguities on our part in detail beforehand. He convinced us with his open, friendly and reliable way of Meru Slopes Safaris&Tours.

Arriving in Arusha at the airport, the driver was already waiting to take us to the hotel. At the hotel we were welcomed and committed by Jerome. The next day Asantaeli (driver and guide) and Buga (chef) picked us up at the hotel.

We visited Tarangire, Serengeti, Ndutu and Ngorongoro Crater National Parks. The tour offered was very well put together both by the transfer times and by the length of the game drives (although these can of course be customised on a private safari). A good mix of lodges and campsites. The latter are relatively simple - this is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but was the perfect choice for us. The mattresses were comfortable, the tents were always ready when we arrived, dinner was freshly prepared right on site.

The food of Buga was absolute madness. While other vendors offer boring lunchboxes, Buga spoiled us with fresh and above all authentic food.

Asantaeli was a very good driver and had a very good feel. Thanks to him we enjoyed watching the BigFive and the UglyFive. He always waited patiently until we had fully grasped the situations and still purposefully guided us to the best places. Of course, there is always some luck with the animal sightings.

Both deserved 6/5 stars.

After the safari Jerome offered us a free city tour in Arusha. Together with Nixon, they showed us the lives of the people there. That was great.

Due to the prices of the more well-known agencies in Europe, we started looking for a regional provider. Meru Slopes was just the right choice and we would recommend it to anyone. We have had good experience for the deposit with "Wise" (by bank transfer).

We were on our honeymoon in October 2024, contacting them directly from the site. Right away they provided us with all the information and sewed on us an all-inclusive itinerary (Board, Accommodation, Travel, City Tours, Park Entrance, Drinks during the Safari, etc...). They always welcomed us with great courtesy and professionalism and with the city tour we were able to cast a glance on the daily life of this country. During the safari we were accompanied by Mohamed: very good at driving in all conditions, very prepared on the roads, knows everyone everywhere (and this was a great help), very Expert on places, animals and areas to look for them (we saw all the big 5, despite the season), very courteous and discreet with excellent English. Reasonable prices and no surprises, all clear and indicated since the quote, indeed some extras were offered to us (eg urban removals). Unforgettable experience, to be our first absolutely recommended safari!

A truly unforgettable experience!

My wife and I chose the 8 day private safari package with Meru slopes in August to witness the great migration.

Every aspect of the trip was very well planned. Jerome handled the booking process flawlessly and was very attentive to all our needs.

For those choosing Meru slopes, we highly recommend having Samuel as your guide. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable (with eagle-eyed vision) but was also an absolutely lovely person. My wife and I would not have loved our experience as much had it not been for Samuel (we miss you Samuel!)

Would do it again in a heartbeat. No question.

If I could give Meru Slopes more than 5 stars, I would.

From start to finish the team has been exceptional, answering my very many questions and going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. We also found their rates to be competitive against other companies we spoke to.

We had a lovely week across Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater made possible thanks to Almachius, Robert and Geofrey.

Our guide and driver Robert was top class. He was timely, engaging, professional, spoke perfect English and was just a general pleasure to spend time with. He really did his very best to make sure we saw every animal possible. We saw the big 5 and managed to see cheetahs, leopards and lions daily in the Serengeti.

Geofrey also kindly offered us a room at his hotel at the end of our trip allowing us to freshen up in advance of our flight which was much appreciated (the food at the restaurant was delicious!)

We opted for mid range accommodation during our stay which we tailored ourselves based on our own research and by getting a breakdown all properties within that range from Meru Slopes before making our selection. I would highly recommend doing this as it allowed us to stay at newly refurbished and more intimate camps with a handful of tents versus more established camps with more than 20 tents, which really added to the overall experience.

Meru Slopes is also a truly local company hiring only local staff. We were really pleased about this and were happy to be able to give back in some way.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Meru Slopes and would certainly use them again if we ever returned to Tanzania. Do not hesitate, just book your trip with them!
