One of the more "worth-it" attractions to visit in hualien. While it is not spectacular, it is beautiful and quiet. You can choose to rent a bike and cycle around the lake, or hire a paddle boat for an hour to enjoy the scenery :)

There's bike and boat hire, or you can just walk around the lake and into the surrounding mountain forest. The bird life is amazing and there are lots of butterflies and spiders (and snakes and wasps, as the signs remind you). When you're done with that you can eat big plates of fried softshell crab and shrimp fritters and drink... More

We visited Hualien with a group of friends (8 people ) Liyu lake was one of the stops on our trip. The lake on a good day is pretty. Out on the war you have nice views of the surrounding distant mountain ranges. Liyu lake isn't all that big and is fairly commercialised to cash in on tourists. Activities on... More

Lake is not very large. You have on one side hill view. You can do water biking or have speed boat tour around the lake. There are some restaurants. Nice to be here but not a top attraction.

Located in Shoufeng District, 18km South of Hualien City on Taiwan Route 9 of the mountains East Rift Valley. Estimated around 2km long on North – South direction and approximately 1.0km in width. It is the largest lake in Hualien City. Liyu Mountain on the east is said to resemble a portion of a carp fish where the name of... More

We visited Liyu Lake early in the morning, largely before other visitors arrived. However, we know that if a lake has a large herd of swan pedalos - then it's not for us! The surrounding scenery was okay but not remarkable.

This is a nice little lake - you can peddle a swan boat or bike around the lake. But I think the best is to try the kayak - very relaxing and not too difficult. Make sure you pick the right vendor who can provide you the proper safety equipments including helmet. We visited the place in a raining afternoon,... More
