My partner is an artist and fabric designer - so this was a must visit place during a longer visit to Galle. The owner was very friendly and helpful and it was very interesting to see all stages of hand production of Sri Lankan cotton products. They do not normally sell base fabrics from the factory but were very helpful with our requests. As well as being an interesting place making lovely fabrics and products, the factory also provides valuable local employment for the women weavers.

I visited Sooriya Weaving with my partner and had a wonderful afternoon, we only wish we could have stayed longer but we had a tight schedule. You can learn all about the end to end weaving process and have the chance to know the community of kind people working in there, as well as find a wide range of organic cotton textiles you can buy in the shop. We also had the pleasure to meet the owner Chandana which was super nice and even gave us a brief ride back to our next stop out of generosity. Definitely a place to visit if you are based in Galle!

What a wonderful gesture from chandana, the owner of Soorya viewing. It was an amazing experience to go through the whole process of traditional dress making. Definitely a place to visit in Galle.

Really great experience. Highly recommended.

We got a personal tour from the second generation owner/manager of this amazing mill. Chandanna couldn't have been more helpful or interesting, and shared the story of his factory with us patiently without any fee or product push. You saw the ladies at work at each stage of the process, a real learning experience for us and our kids.

And the colours are just fantastic.

Amazing to see how real people live and work. Highly recommend a visit. Allow perhaps an hour- it is relatively remote so short tuk tuk from Galle to get there. Call ahead for directions and to let them know.

Highly highly recommended.

We visited the fabric production with our 4 year old daughter and baby girl. The owner, ignoring a number of phone calls while talking to us, was very pleased to show and explain us everything and the ladies colouring and processing fabric and yarn super smiley and friendly, especially with our little ones.
The tour was free of charge and the tip we gave was put in a wooden tip box "for the women working here", while the ladies where noted about the tip, smiling in reply.

It has been a very interesting & warm experience we do recommend to anyone. Take a look at the pictures to catch an impression.

Enjoy!

Very fascinating tour by seeing the row cotton fiber dyeing and converting to fabric and clothes. you can spend entire day at the factory as its link with the nature green environment. Of course, there is a shop at the end. you are surprised by that. But they never force or ask buy anything . I personally found the products of a high quality and totally different to usual souvenirs. I was glad to buy and felt I got a very reasonable price.
