On 24th April 2016 we have visited. Wonderful experience. The navy staffs were very friendly and trained. We have seen 4 to 5 appearances of whale (perhaps the same one) and on our way back met some dolphins. Overall worth taking!

We had booked to watch the hump back whale on the boat of the Sri Lankan Navy. While the boat and the arrangements on it were good, we found discrimination as a non local, as the boat waited for over 45 minutes for a group of locals who were upgraded to key seats on the deck. While make the booking... More

Boarding from Gale Navy Base in Southern Sri Lanka. Operated and managed by Sri Lankan Navy. Well disciplined and trained staff on board. There is a bar available on top deck if you want to have a drink on board. Snacks provided on board. First time sailing make sure to take a sea sickness pill well before you get on... More

We went for whale watching by a private boat carrying about 20 people. The trip started from Mirissa at 7.15 am and went to the see about 20 km which took three hours. As whales were not spotted, they scoured the area for more than one hour. However, we were lucky to see one whale making appearance for two or... More

Avoid if you take any responsibility for the consequences of your tourism. I was appalled and disgusted to see the Sri Lanka Navy Whale watching boat speeding at full throttle straight towards any whales or dolphins they saw without slowing. I have never seen such callous and ignorant disregard for the well-being of the very animals you are going to... More

The service and tour organized by the Navy was great. They are friendly and willing to mingle with the customer especially if you are foreigner. We were invited to get into the captain cabin so that can have a better view of the whale. They tried very hard to show us the whale and go after them. However, I think... More

The booking process was through email. We were informed of our booking reference two days prior to the schedule departure. Everything was organised perfectly and the security did not have any issues identifying us through the reference No. Payment for the trip was paid on arrival. All were given a packed breakfast which we ate later on due to the... More

This is a 4 -5 hour whale watching tour that starts from the Naval Harbor in Galle. The cost per person is Rs. 3,500/- (Local & foreigners are charged the same rate). For those of you who get sea sick I strongly advice to take a "Avomin" tablet before boarding the vessel. Before commencing the journey they serve breakfast which... More
